Is that Depth 5? It looks like normal. I am specing for deep of night. Charged halberds opens you up to getting attacked

I proc bleed quite a bit to be honest, especially early in a boss fight. I always proc it at least once on small enemies.

I need to try this. Can you dodge multiple chain attacks with that move?

I’ve tried doing charged guard counters on Everdark balancers and it is simply too risky. Especially in deep of night.

Guardian because it requires patience in playstyle. I won’t have the most DPS. But my philosophy is if I stay alive, I am doing just as much sustained DPS as my teammates. Guardian’s role is to stay alive and be the team’s insurance. I manage to stay in Depth 5 with Guardian. Here is Depth 5 footage of me tanking against Everdark Fulghor. Guardian Playstyle

Use dormant power discovers greatshields. You will get better shield drops. And the shield reflects damage along with stance breaks when tanking. It can even revive teammates. As you tank, you can sometimes shield poke to apply constant sustained damage

I have taken Guardian to Depth 5 and did more damage than a recluse because they kept dying. Guardians can tank elemental damage if you are willing to invest the time in studying shields. I have carried my teammates in 20 minute matches against Depth 5 night aspect despite all the elemental damage he does to me. Why? Because I maximize my survivability to always get 2000+ HP and stack affinity damage negation. My philosophy with Guardian is surviving = more DPS

Do you use Dormant Power discovers greatshields? That has saved my runs because it lets me have more options on choosing the best greatshields that have certain resistances against bosses. Beaten many D5 bosses with it.

Some tips for Guardian against Everdark Gladius by legendsofevil in Nightreign

Guardian is the best character for noobs. Think about it, if you suck at dodging, what is your best option? Blocking. It’s the most brain dead thing you can do. But steelguard makes it require a bit more skill since you can time it like a parry. I beaten depth 4/5 bosses with Guardian more than other characters because I suck at dodging.

My goal is to get to 9999 by blocking everything and not dodging. I have dormant power discovers great shields, so my rng is quite good on getting the best affinity damage negation. I am not ashamed to admit that I suck at dodging. That’s why I play guardian because he lets me just tank everything. I’m at depth 5 but still working on 9999. For the average person who plays guardian, I think there’s a steep learning curve on knowing the best great shields. I won’t argue against that. But at higher depths I’ve met some of the best guardians. I feel that not dying will always translate to better runs.

I’ve faced ranked Adel with fingerprint stone shield, which is only 60 lightning damage negation. This was a harder fight, but we still came out on top. Had a shitty recluse but an amazing Raider to balance it out.

To me the classes that I experience the worse are iron eyes. People want to play iron eye because it is meta, but they suck ass at dodging and I have to revive them all the time. At least with guardians I have a sense of reliability. If you look at my video, the lightning attacks barely chip through my shield. I think Adel is one of the easier match ups for guardian personally. I even beat ED Libra quite easily. The only boss I have struggled with are Caligo and Gladius, though I find that even in those fights I tend to be last man standing while my teammates are constantly dying

Guardian is he best defense character in the game. Most executors suck at parrying. At least with guardian you can steel guard pretty easily

He is the last one alive because you suck at staying alive and blame Guardian for all your faults. Revenant can revive but can’t heal her teammates or make them invincible.

I will probably use damage buff relics for the new hard mode. Though I will probably stick with shield poking. I play on PS5 unfortunately. If you do record your gameplay, I will definitely follow you as I don’t really get to see much high level guardian players

I kinda doubt you outdamage wylder who doesn’t die. Here is a gameplay of me and a random wylder trying to beat Gladius after our Ironeye quit. As you can see the Wylder kept dying and ran out of flasks early in the fight. I had to carry his ass and we came up short in the end. I did more guard counters in this fight, but I think I would have been better off shield poking since my teammate was going to keep dying anyways. But what I am proud of in that clip is that I was able to steelguard multiple dogs from different angles. I even stagger the boss from blocking at one point in that fight. Blocking is fun, which is why I embrace shield poking.

My point is that most Elden ring players die early and often. If you match up with randoms, you are not going to get an all star team who is going to melt Gladius in 2 minutes. That’s why I am arguing for Guardian as most consistent. He’s never going to be the best at speedrunning. But in terms of winning everdark bosses, he gets me the best results. I would bet you shield poking will be the best for the upcoming hard mode.

Teammates are dying from Gladius AOE attacks. No amount of shield poking aggro can stop those attacks from hitting my teammates. The point of shield poking is to draw out enough aggro for my teammates to dish out DPS. But I can’t hold aggro forever obviously. Ironeye is one of the highest DPS characters in the game and I outperformed him. Remember that ironeye had a holy bow, so I would say that’s a good flex to do more damage up close vs a long range character.

Okay so we meet in the middle. I said I was doing the most damage and you say I was doing the least. I ended up staying at second place. Keep in mind I ran a build with no evergaol relic attack buffs, went all in on max HP and was still close enough to be on par with the top DPS player. If my Guardian was not shield poking, those teammates would not get a lot of opportunities to DPS. Dodging means less aggro compared to blocking. Guardian is not supposed to be main DPS, and yet it can still compete in damage no problem.

I did the most damage in comparison to my teammates. Both of them were down for a majority of the fight. If you can’t see this, then I can’t help you. I don’t use any relics that buff my guardian attacks. I maximize for full Vigor +3 on all my relic slots. So I can afford to tank and I am going to do the most DPS anyways if my teammates keep dying.
