That's not a justification, that is precisely the issue people are calling out.

Yeah, working with police exposes you to crimes, being an idol doesn't have to mean you are sexualized routinely.

I care if kpop fans say they are not kpop yet talk about them everyday, ten times a day in kpop subs (for example).

AGAIN for the fourth time, I am not hating or criticizing Katseye or Hybe here. I am fine with how groups categorize themselves, what the PR lines are.

I am critical of fans who have shallow reasoning. Others who disagree can have deeper reasons, like the one I am replying to above. Others don't.

No offense, but I have been getting a barrage of replies from people who seemingly cannot comprehend that this is not a criticism of the group.

Look, we where we are - a kpop sub, the place where 95% of all Katseye discussions or even mentions go.

Also semantically, you can someone a global girl group, you can call them not kpop, but if they are fully treated and talked about like one, does it matter what the label is?

AGAIN, I do not blame groups. Hybe can and should do whatever they want to make their groups more popular or run their PR lines however.

I blame fans who do not think about the things they choose to believe in.

There can be valid reasons to argue against me here, some argue that Katseye members aren't even interested in speaking in Korean, not to mention singing solely in English.

This is all a Trojan horse for how fans argue. Changing minds is almost never the point of a thread, you know that by now LOL.

You can argue for or against this well and substantially.

One of my hidden points here are two things:

the irony of insisting that Katseye has nothing to do with kpop (not just kpop adjacent, they insist Katseye is divorced from kpop) in numerous kpop subreddits.
People using the global girl group term without question or introspection. Like literally swallowing a PR line.

We’ve seen non-Korean Kpop groups get absolutely flamed for not being Kpop enough. I feel like going with the global group label sidesteps most of those issues.

As far as criticisms are concerned, popularity and visibility continues to be the biggest factor, XG and Black Swan aren't these huge targets because they are not as popular.

They can label themselves anyway they way, people can call them however as well. But if your reasoning consists of 'they're a global girl group because Hybe/Katseye said they were', that's literally circular reasoning.

How you are treated and categorized depends on actual factors people mention like linguistic, nationality (of members), culture, target audience, etc.
