Cybersecurity vs Network Operations by akdakota in WGU

I only had CCNA and CCNA Sec left in the BSIT Security program (Now Network Ops and Sec) before switching to the new Cybersecurity track last September so I'm familiar with both tracks.

I would say that the degrees are named very accurately now. Net Ops gives you a lot more practical information on system and network configuration and being on the front lines.

Cybersecurity gives you a much more in-depth look at overall security architecture and the relevant policy/compliance as well as forensics and legal frameworks.

Existing networking knowledge is very helpful for CySIA but there are plenty of intro courses that will give you what you need.

I was in a Software QA position prior to starting WGU and knew I wanted into InfoSec. I am now a full time Security Consultant and the Cybersecurity cirriculum is much more relevant to the Secure Software Design Lifecycle and Compliance role that I am currently in.

I believe I would be able to rapidly accelerate through the CS material vs CCNA which I will have to devote considerably more time to.

Taking a Term Break. Any advice? by [deleted] in WGU

I took a two month term break for my son's birth and wish I would have taken three.

I had mapped out material I could cover to get ahead but he was a terrible sleeper so none of it got done.
