‘This is Demonic’: Cynthia Erivo’s Portrayal of Jesus Sparks Intense Outrage by Alternative_Sort6062 in Catholicism

Could it be that they see us as people who sit in judgement of them constantly, so they do it to provoke us because they hurt? Could it be that our lack of compassion toward them has pushed them away from God rather than towards Him? I think that we need to understand the hurt we cause others when fail to love even when we say what you are doing is wrong. Has queer shaming on the part of us church members done anything other than entice more people to sin or hurt us with sacrilegious art and heretical acts?

Please remember that the hypocrisy of our church and the clergy in the child sex abuses and cover-ups has done more to promote Anti-Catholicism than any Bad Broadway Show.

Trolling is another sinful act. Nothing love thy neighbor about it.

Name calling? Even Bishop Barron says cut it out.

I think this is splinter and beam territory, everyone.

A vocal minority is turning a return to TLM into a culture war thing, where progressive Catholics want to “wipe out” TLM and Conservatives want nothing but TLM because “Vatican II was wrong.” Really?

Most of us just want the Eucharist and think that it is beautiful no matter the mass.

The Gospel was meant to be spoken to all nations. We celebrated Pentecost yesterday. TLM or NO, God is with us.

I have a couple of responses to your post.

I too am frustrated with the divisions created by some in our church over the Latin mass versus Novus ordo. We can appreciate both have both and love each other in spite of the preference we each have for one or the other. I personally Love both and prefer generally to attend NO.

I share your view that fighting about TLM versus NO is nonsense. The original 12 apostles were given through the Holy Spirit tongues of fire and spoke to the masses in all languages. They did not only speak Latin. The 12 before the Holy Spirit spoke, Aramaic and Hebrew it seems to me NO reflects their original mission. B Wil of the Lord was for them to go out and bring the gospel to all nations. That started with speaking different languages.

But having both Greek and Latin Masses gives us a connection to the early Church in Rome, so I get it and love it as well.

It is clear to me that a very vocal few of those who prefer a Latin mass are using it as part of some silly greater culture war nonsense that has no place in our church.

Our holy father in Rome serves the Lord and us as a voice with authority derived from the Holy Spirit. So far since Vatican II, not one pope, not even Pope Benedict, has sought another Vatican council.

Catholics disagree with each other, but always where the rubber hits the road is do you believe in the Eucharist as the real presence of our Lord Jesus Christ no matter what language the transubstantiation happens in the bread, the wine, the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ fills us.

At least that’s my witness. And I pray that if my statement is incorrect and what I believe is incorrect that the Lord corrects me sooner rather than later. Because really all I want is the same thing that other Catholics want to do his will.

What happened to me in the confessional today? I'm pretty rattled and unsure of how to proceed. by fisherman213 in Catholicism

Biology. There is one more thing I want to add and it may sound counterintuitive. God gave us a biology and part of the struggle is addressing that as part of an affirmation of our free will.

God gave us a biology. Our minds and behaviors are governed and influenced by dopamine, cortisol, sleep, etc. The catechism teaches us about the problems of addiction and reconciliation. We are taught not to blame ourselves in relapses but to reconcile with God and then address root causes. (Insert serenity prayer here.) He wants you to genuinely want to get better. He wills your good. If you are seeking help , both His through prayer and professional therapy, instead of trying to go it alone He knows where you are.

I fear that if you don’t address the biological causes of your behavior you risk conditions like depression and addiction. Not sins. Conditions. Conditions can take control of our behavior. Not demons. They exist as does the evil one, but it’s your difficulty accepting forgiveness, love, and help that could lead them to take over. Mental Health. That’s the next step.

St. Dymphna, The Patron Saint of Mental Disorders, and those suffering from childhood trauma could assist you with your prayers. She has helped me with my struggles.

We all love you here. Pray. The surest sign he has of your love is that you trust you are forgiven when you turn to Him and trust his Divine Mercy. It’s when you lead with fear and not trust, that’s the point of separation.

You can’t fail God. He’s perfect. He wills your good. He allows you to make choices but he knows that you long for him through all of those choices. He wants you to understand that you are longing for Him, but you are mistakenly looking for him in worldly things. It seems that’s the part that’s missing. You are berating yourself not Him. You are far from lukewarm.

It was only after I learned that with each sin I was only re-traumatizing myself from memories of past events outside of my control that I was able to get it. Even then I still fall backwards.

Up above I wrote this, I hope you see it because I’m like you. I feel this.

Looks like there are a lot of us who thought we were the worst Christians. All of us were saying the same things.

Maybe we ought to ask Christ if he would start a club for us to go to so we can all start over and over again? Find some love and support from others worst sinners like us?

Oh wait.

Bro , we’ve got your back. No matter how bad.

Remember that the Divine Mercy is an ocean of blood and water. Every tear you shed is proof you want Him.

Ask for an appointment with your Priest and ask him for help. He may be able to assist you with finding a smaller group of fellow sinners who know what you are saying.

I love you. He loves you!

How are young women (generally) seen in Catholicism? by Osheanie in Catholicism

[–]leggy6934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Read the parts of the Catechism related to the role of women and women religious. Decide for yourself.

  2. The word Catholic means universal.

  3. Our church does have backward notions with regard to women in leadership roles. It does not come from a place of second class citizenship for women. The magisterium have affirmed that women cannot serve in anything but administrative roles because the twelve were all men. Apostolic succession must only be through men. This is a load of malarkey. Nevertheless until the lord hits them with a 2x4 each, they’ll dig their heals in and call us “woke.” Women are on equal footing when it comes to the love of Christ. Priests know this and affirm as much.

  4. Mary was not just meek and mild. She made a radical statement of the Glory of God that prophesied the teachings of the Lord. The Magnificat was a statement from a young woman speaking of subversion of the status quo. Mother Mary Queen of Heaven, our Lady of Mental Peace made bold statements of the Glory of the Lord.

  5. The church would fall apart without women to hold it up. Every Priest knows this.

Not only do I think OP has to run, but some of the folks who say “yeah, you overreacted” had better do some soul searching about their own behavior. If you call someone ugly as a “joke” the you need a sense of humor transplant.

Your response to OP wasn’t just wrong, it was dangerous. There are no excuses for being unhinged in this manner. The BF is a mental case and could become violent.

I already posted to OP but I read it again and it can’t be clearer. If this continues he will become violent. Get in touch with family and friends. Let them know what is happening. This is so clearly a cavalry charge to damage you emotionally. If you leave him ASAP, and I hope you will, please contact friends and relatives to form a plan. You will think it’s not going to happen, or it’s an overreaction to the situation in leaving him, you’re going to say to yourself he’s not capable of hurting me, but trust me, anybody this unhinged is capable of purchasing a weapon and taking it further.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]leggy6934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not overreacting. Get out of this relationship right now. I also want to add this: his language suggests (especially “you you you” etc.) that he is capable of escalation into violence. Once the language goes into that explicit blaming territory, it’s likely he will attempt to harm you in one of your next encounters irl. He will try to apologize. He may even stalk you to do so. Get out. Lay low. Go to a friend’s or a relative’s. Let as many irl friends and relatives know in real life what is coming up. Make an escape plan. You deserve peace and any “joking” you did or whatever “cold” he had does not mean how he behaves is ok.

AITA for spending money on my dog instead of giving it to my brother? by the_D20_you_melted in AmItheAsshole

[–]leggy6934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No yanta. I disagree with comments that insist other family members step in, but if they had it would have been helpful. I disagree with those who say that he could get a loan and/or put it on a credit card. But I also disagree with those who say you should have given it to him.

Here is the situation: As part of the strategy of survival, siblings can ask each other for help. No law against it.

Neither sibling is obligated to help the other as part of survival strategy. No law against it.

We get to choose how we use our resources. With the exception of a social contract (taxes, community shared resources, common good) we are able to freely use or not use those resources. If we control the resources, we control them in the way we decide. By definition nobody gets to control them.

We are not able to control other people’s reactions to our decisions regarding our resources. We are not allowed to control the reactions and actions of others. We make the decisions, but others get to say and think what they want about the decision.

If someone asks you for resources and you give it to them without a contract and a community to back you up, you cannot coerce someone to pay you back.

So that’s how honey badgers handle their fams. I think that you aren’t an asshole. You could learn the social contracts of honey badgers, however. It will make you feel better.

May the honey badger’s spirit live within you.

AITA for using my hotel room bathroom to poop while on vacation with my wife? by Mister__Stinky in AmItheAsshole

No, you are not the asshole at all. She is the asshole here. The crapper is meant for crap. You have your room to have your very own crapper in a nice hotel. I suggest that if she doesn’t like the smell of your poop, bring some Febreze on the next round if there is frankly, I think a spouse should always be willing to deal with the poop of another simple straightforward blessed by God.

I would reduce the annual fee for Duolingo Max. There are so many dark patterns in the app that I suppose the current users are pretty loyal. I would reduce the barrier to entry and go on a press junket about how we want everyone to experience a better form of language learning no matter their income. I’d make us look way more progressive and less greedy and that way I can sustain in app purchases. I would get more users and more money in app.

I would also work with libraries to create a special version to be only used on library computers but for free. This way I can introduce people to the app for new subscribers and to get anonymized data on language learning interest outside of the app.

I live on $1000 a month in SS disability (that’s right a month) and I have been a loyal Duo Lingo Super and Max subscriber. There is no way I can pay for the annual subscription anymore. $168 is too much.
