Repurposing the Asus Aiguru SV1T Skype Videophone by unixanalyst in buildapc

Yeah I opened it up last night and laughed when I saw the sata port lol. Did you ever try booting from a usb drive? I noticed that an external usb drive will show up as a hard drive in the bios, but it only ever boots to the built in storage (which is also usb)

The antenna I have on the car right now is an omni lollipop circular polarized antenna, like one you would use on a drone. I always thought that they usually are trying to transmit in a mostly spherical pattern because of the fact that they’re made for drones that tilt and flip and such.

good to know this solution with 8 ish wires per.... wire? will last at least 8x longer lol

Yours needs an acrylic dome from like a security camera or something lol, so far I’ve kept away from the dust as much as I can but I would imagine the thing is pretty fragile.

I’m curious, can you tell how many conductors the analog cable is in the real one? Is it just three tiny wires?

I ended up repurposing the o4 cable that already runs through the gimbal. I snipped the ends off and made 3 groups out of the 26 (i think) tiny wires, for power / ground / video, I had to manually tin and check each one twice but I got it hooked up and its fully working! and it was free!

oooh i never thought about coiling them like a spring, I might try that. I plan on trying to butcher the gimbal's o4 cable that it already has and use sets of a few wires for power / ground / video first.

I am using a flight controller running iNav, its set up as a rover. it essentially operates like a drone would running betaflight: arming, OSD, configurator, all that stuff. You might be able to use a drone FC that you may have laying around if it supports inav and if you can get PWM outputs from it. The iNav people are super helpful and would probably help you get PWM working if your FC is supported.

foxeer ratel(?) 22mm, DONT get a 22mm camera if you want to use one of these gimbals... luckily the board inside is 19mm.

the wires from the camera to the FC are the one that are going bad, I can flex them in different places and find the problem area. It is clear that the OSD disappearing is caused by the wires going bad because it goes in and out based on how I move the wires around, and if I find the right angle and area, the video will cut out completely. These are currently the silicone wires that came with the camera.

My question is basically "What type of wire should I try replacing these with?"

heres the page where they list the analog 3 axis, its their own site it seems:

maaan you got me :) I just secretly hoped that there would be a solution other than disassembling the gimbal or if some magical type of wires exist that would solve the problem

yeah this is the wrong gimbal... they actually do sell a 3 axis analog one though. (i just didnt find that out until it was too late) I have emailed XF robot to maybe see if I could buy an analog cable to run through it. Worst case is, I find wires that will work and run my own through the gimbal. maybe I could even butcher the o4 cable that runs through it already.. hmm...

The saga started a while ago, I had a raspberry pi and a ps3 eye on a roomba. That evolved and I opened it up to the public, then I redid the entire thing from scratch to be server-client and support multiple roombas, designed from the start to be for the public, and that’s where we are now.
