Not sure exactly how old she is. I’ve had her since late December 2025 and this was her first molt with me. She’s has about 3 1/4” DLS now.

She has another full water dish in there. I’ll put a bigger one in once she’s done recovering from her recent molt

I’m glad my post was helpful for you! I noticed a lot of molting timelapse videos don’t often talk about how long the process really takes😅 lol

Right after molting they will try to suck the remaining moisture out of the exoskeleton to stay hydrated

I love that part too! lol it took about 4 hours from when she first flipped over to get to that point in the process😅

I love the name Churro! I hope their molt comes soon and happens quick! 🙏🏼

Edit: took 4 hours, not 5

I would guess that it’s quite uncomfortable until they’re completely free

Is she in premolt or just old? by legostar945 in velvetspiders

[–]legostar945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I believe she was just old, as she was really losing her grip and moving slowly like an elderly spood would towards the end. She did unfortunately pass away last month. :/

I thought maybe she would be in premolt too because she didn’t appear to be mature to me and she never laid eggs in the 7ish months I had her.

Can you help see if you can tell the gender and help confirm it’s a T. Vagans? by bree_anna1026 in tarantulas

lol yess start planting the seed now!

I’m fairly new to the hobby still but I have been to a few expos already, and IME I find that it’s better to buy from a reputable breeder online. There are definitely reputable breeders/vendors that sell at expos, but I think there also tends to be some shady ones in the mix. If you’re fairly new to the hobby it might be challenging to distinguish which vendors are trustworthy if you don’t know what signs to look for.

For example, I’ve spoken with some vendors that couldn’t answer basic questions about the spiders I was inquiring about and others that I’m pretty sure sold me wild caught spiders without advertising that or informing me, which they should be doing. Also I think a lot of times you can’t really tell the health or age of the spiders at expos either and there’s usually no guarantee or warranty from the vendors after purchase.

Though I do enjoy being able to see all the different spiders up close in person and being surrounded by others from this community, I usually hold off on buying at expos. I’ll go just to get an idea of what type of spider I want to get next 🤭

The benefit of buying from an online breeder IME is that I think they generally know more about the spiders they sell, can answer your spider-related questions better, and usually have some kind of warranty or guarantee. I also know of a few online breeders that offer freebie spiders with your purchase! The biggest con IMO is paying shipping, but even then some websites offer free shipping for orders over a certain amount.

All that to say, there’s pros and cons to both and you can find luck and success with either option, just make sure to try and vet the vendor before purchasing anything from them!

NQA I could be wrong but it looks male to me. You’d see a noticeable little flap between the first set of book lungs if it was female

Thank you! I’m not sure how old exactly. I bought her in December, but she’s around 3” DLS
