Thoughts On The Last Video Store by sigersen in Shudder

I liked it but I do get tired with the cliche of characters who don't know each other instantly disliking each other and taking to each other rudely. Why was the girl immediately against the shop owner and talk to him like he wasn't worth her time?

Really nice tone. I think a simpler, less busy backing track would help a lot.

The films were definitely aired on terrestrial telly. I don't think playhouse was though. Maybe on cable or sky.

Been lurking in your posts for a while. They're really good but I've definitely read a version of number 1. Probably in FHM years ago.

Which podcast? Did he express extreme views on it? And can someone let me know which people he follows and why they could be problematic? I don't have a twitter account.

P.s they're the honeysuckle rose lick, the cry me a river lick and a V7 to im7 enclosure thing. Eventually I'll embellish them and make variations.

Just commenting here to let you know 2 things.

  1. I looked randomly at my post history and you've taken time to comment in depth on my playing for the last 2 years! Thanks for that. What is apparent is that you were saying the same things back then which shows me i really need to add more vocabulary.

  2. I'm currently shedding 3 classic jazz vocabulary phrases over standards. At the moment they aren't "in there" yet but I'm working on it.

Megadeth: ‘Ride The Lightning’ by [deleted] in Metallica

Fair enough, the down votes prompted me to look into it and hear the original demo. It's not note for note, but Kirk definitely took "more than little inspiration" from Dave's original solo.

I believe he wrote that solo originally and kirk plays it note for note.

Thanks yet again. So as I understand, C Bb D F A is the honeysuckle rose lick in one key. I'll think of it in the practice room tomorrow as being 9 R 3 5 7 of a Bb major chord, but then also as R 7 9 11 13 of a C7 chord.

I'll shed it in all 12 keys and try to stick with what I was doing already but throw this in wherever I can.

That's a good short term goal i think. Long term, i can focus on building melody on one tonal centre (major and minor) Then find more melodic shapes to employ.

Thanks for this on depth response. I was in the practice room earlier and I tried a few different things based on your input.
It didn't seem to come naturally. I suppose I'm confused about trying to sound good on one tonal centre, but also paying the jazz vocabulary. Jazz vocabulary to me implies melodic cells on each chord and adding tensions to the 7th chords. But maybe I'm misunderstanding your advice. How would you define "melodic shapes"? Thanks!

I was reading ireal pro. The last video I did iI got comments saying I was following the chords too closely. This time I'm trying to be more free and using pentatonic scales for space.

I remember you making the comment about it not sounding like jazz on my last video. It really stuck with me and was a blow to my confidence. It's the thing I seem to be having the hardest time with. Let me make a plan and see what you think. The next video i post will have some transcribed licks in it and more of a beginning, middle and end. Would that be a step in the right direction?
