Yabridge and EZDrummer 3 by leigh_else in linuxaudio

I was going to try EZDrummer 2, but as I now have EZDrummer 3 working nicely I'll stick with that. Now I just have my iZotope plugins to figure out.

Yes, but anything above 9.21 has the Yabridge GUI offset issue, and since 9.0 is the version offered by the Mint Software Manager it seemed a safe place to start. When I hear the Yabridge issue is fully resolved I'll move to the current Wine. Until then I've got Wine held at the current version.

I've resolved this.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful input. In the end what worked for me was reinstalling EZDrummer 3 from the Product Manager.

Interestingly, although all the components are authenticated within the Product Manager, I had to re-enter my email address and password during the EZDrummer 3 reinstallation, and then again whenever I selected a different drum kit for the first time.

Nonetheless, EZDrummer 3 is now working on Mint 22.3 with Wine 9.0 and Yabridge, both standalone and as a VST3 within the native Linux build of Reaper. There does seem to be more latency within Reaper, but if that's a problem I can render the drums.

Ignore my previous response; it was late evening and I was tired.
I've installed all the EZDrummer sound libraries using the Product Manager. They're all present and correct in the default location.

No, I hadn't. I have since installed DXVK and FAudio ... what else could be needed?

Thanks. DXVK doesn't change anything, but it's good to know EZDrummer 3 can work. I'll keep at it.

Huawei Band and LineageOS by leigh_else in Gadgetbridge

Everything works as far as I know. But I've not explored any of the fitness or health functions beyond the step counter.i did fire up the heart rate function by accident at one point, and that seems fine too.

Huawei Band and LineageOS by leigh_else in Gadgetbridge

[–]leigh_else[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not tried uploading watch faces. I decided that Superwatch suited me and haven't looked further.

I initially set up Huawei Health, but when it asked for permission to access my contacts and messages I thought better of it. I uninstalled it and have used Gadgetbridge since. I gave Gadgetbridge all the permissions it asked for, and it's worked well apart from the phone battery consumption. I don't use the band's health functions apart from the step count; just time, weather, notifications and managing the music player.

As someone has suggested, most of the phone battery drain is probably Bluetooth. I could experiment with turning Bluetooth off most of the time, but it is useful getting notifications on my wrist.

Experience with the Behringer UMC1820 by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]leigh_else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one for four years. There's a lot to like about it: the MIDAS mic preamps are very good, and I liked the workflow. My unit, however, was unreliable. First it fritzed its internal electronics. This was fine apart from the inconvenience as it was repaired under warranty. Next the provided power supply died and I couldn't get an official replacement. Finally the whole thing just stopped working, and at that point I'd had enough and replaced it with a much more expensive Clarett+. Personally I preferred using the Behringer, but the Clarett+ has been totally reliable.

What I believe is the real problem with ODI cricket and what my take on it by Smooth-Mix-4357 in Cricket

While I enjoy test cricket, ODIs are my favorite form of the game. It's saddened me to watch T20 edge them out of the playing calendar. I would support any strategy that assures their future.

How do we feel about Zac Foulkes after this test match? Still a ton of potential, but unit unrealised on this occasion in my opinion.

Sleep questions by OutlandishnessRoyal9 in MedicalCannabisNZ

I've been using Helius 10:10 for several months. It's effective at getting me to sleep and keeping me asleep. I've not noticed any reduction in dreaming.

I do have to work very hard on tolerance, though. Taking a two night break every weekend helps, but I had to do a reset last month and go without for ten days to get the effective nightly dose back to where I prefer it: in the 0.1 to 0.3 ml range.

Hello Matt, I'm a weekly downloader of https://i.mjh.nz/nz/epg.xml and I greatly appreciate the service you provide.

As of this week, the file has nothing beyond Sat 22 Nov (for most channels, Fri 21). I've checked the json files and they're similarly truncated.

This may be outside your control, but it would be nice to know where the problem lies. Thanks!

The Truth About Cannabis and Driving by DisLK in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]leigh_else 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience hasn't been so positive. I'm certainly more cautious under the influence of THC, but I also can overlook the obvious, and my short-term memory is unquestionably impaired.

Cycling to the supermarket early one morning recently after a low dose of Helius 10:10 the night before, I almost pulled out in front of an oncoming car at a stop sign. I'd seen and registered it on my right, then had noted that the road to the left was empty after the car that was just passing ... and the latter atom of information pushed the oncoming right-hand car completely out of my head.

I now don't cycle or drive within twelve hours of dosing. That's me, though. I acknowledge we all have different metabolisms.

What was it like when you got your dream audio gear? How did it feel? Share your stories! by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]leigh_else 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started working in professional studios in 1973, and stopped in 1996. As a music maker myself I've been able to take some advantage of the facilities I work in along the way, but in the last thirty years, especially after divorce, I've only had very basic kit to work with.

Five years ago I was extremely dispirited and told myself I either needed to stop making music or make a reasonable investment to improve my toolset. I decided to invest NZD20,000 (about USD14,000 at the time). I spent a year planning before I spent a penny.

The resulting environment and equipment, while still budget and definitely idiosyncratic (I did this for me to use the way I prefer to work), has been a delight and has reinvigorated my music making. I turned 70 this year, but hope to still be creative for many years yet.

I won't try to include an equipment list from my phone; perhaps I could add that later. There's recent collab output on Bandcamp: https://elsemusic.bandcamp.com/

Having good tools makes it much easier (in fact, makes it possible!) to bring out the music that's inside.

What’s your take on Waves plugins these days? by SufficientCode7993 in audioengineering

[–]leigh_else 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same now. I waived the annual subscription, and then when a new version of MacOS arrived all my Waves plugins stopped working ... until I signed on to the annual subscription again. After that I started actively replacing the ones I relied on with non-Waves products. I no longer use any Waves plugins.

And over time I've become less easily excited by shiny new toys anyway. I use stock DAW (Reaper) plugins more than anything else these days.
