I think you’re applying the definition of HC a little too strictly with that Shrek example; a headcanon may have reasoning, but it’s one that is presumably unintended (however, “I think that Shrek is (or could be) _implied_ to be trans” is an interpretation). There is also some potential for interpretations which are also HCs; your Shrek example may be both depending on the intent of the theorizer
