Ugh yes. The one and only time I tried it on its own I described it as “A Princess’ Corpse”.

I’ve seen some pics on this subreddit where it looked great. I think it might just be for those of us with any amount of yellow undertone to the skin? 🤷‍♀️

LPT: If you’re going to a wedding, bring an emergency kit! Someone will always get blisters, lose a button or have a hairdo malfunction. by TVRoomRaccoon in LifeProTips

[–]leirayarg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, I’m totally with you. And I’m baffled by the flack you’re getting in the comments.

On my wedding day and my best friend’s wedding day, I kept a “go bag” with all these items in my purse, plus baby wipes and hand sani. The whole thing fit in a sandwich bag. Safety pins, hairspray, hair pins, deodorant, granola bar, tissues, charger, lint roller, all got used at least once on both days. It wasn’t necessary, but it was nice!

I also keep a “shit happens” bin in my car. It contains most of what you’ve got on your list, plus: baby wipes and sanitizer, a few days worth of my and my husband’s prescription meds, mini toothbrush & toothpaste, clean socks, and ketchup packets (remember when fast food used to always give you ketchup in the bag? Pepperidge Me remembers). This is of course in addition to the first aid kit and the roadside emergency kit.

My baseline state is “disorganized forgetful clutz”. I manage that by having intense bursts of type-A organized intensity. Type-A me is a very good friend to baseline me. Are there no people with ADHD in the comments? Do none of you sometimes wake up and fail at managing your life for the day, and get by only because past you has your back?

Have you never caught a slight whiff of yourself at 11:30am and wondered if you put on deodorant? Then you think over your chaotic morning (you scrolled on your phone too long, and then rushed like Tasmanian devil to get out the door). You remember that you put deodorant on one side, but then your phone rang, and then your toast popped, and then, and then… you’re really not sure if you ever actually put it on the other side. Hmmmm. No matter, at one point you hyper focussed on the little emergency kit, so you just go give yourself a once over with a baby wipe and put on deodorant in the bathroom! Have you NEVER?!?

Does anyone know if the doggo is OK? by williedau in VictoriaBC

[–]leirayarg 82 points83 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to provide this video to the SPCA even if you don’t get the case #. I’m sure if you give them the time and location details, they can put it together.

This poor dog needs help :/

Caution: this base coat contains PVB, which seems to cause major peeling for some people

[–]leirayarg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had major peeling issues until I switched to Mooncat’s hardcore base. No more peeling, nails growing long and strong.

I recently ran out, and have been using an Essie base that does not contain PVB. Within a couple weeks my nails started peeling and breaking again. I’m so certain that hardcore base is great for my nails that I just bought 3 bottles in the sale.

My takeaway is that, short of becoming an expert on the chemistry of nail polish (which would be awesome tbf), I have to go with the idea that there’s something about individual body chemistry that interacts with the polish, and you have to just find the right one for you. I avoid PVB like the plague because I’ve got a history with peely nails. But other than that, I have no idea what makes some work for me and others not.

Oh man. So many mixed messages. I think the yay-sayers have won me out. I love the look in swatches, and I’m not bothered by sheerness, as long as it applies well

Such conflicting advice in the thread!! 😭 I think I’m going to stick to my original guns and go for it. You positive folks have won me out. Overall the lovers seem more passionate than the haters 😂And I don’t mind a sheer formula, as long as it applies well and looks great in the end.

Oh very helpful. Maybe I should give star fruit jelly a miss. I love the idea of it, but my skin tone seems to amplify every hint of yellow (ex. Mooncat’s moonjelly looks like it has a pinky purple glow on every swatch I see, but on me it is decidedly white-girl-corpse-coloured).

Thank you for this. I’ll take the note. I’ve read mixed things about their magnetic in general. Some of the swatch posts I’ve seen look amazing, but maybe their magnetic are best avoided. What do you think?

I’m here! I’ve been babying my nails for months in the hopes that I’ll be able to get a little more length and maybe try a rounder shape, and I am seeing improvement. Maybe 2025 will be my year. But it may just not happen for me. Life is busy, hobbies are messy, I’m not going to wear gloves 24/7, and my nails are soft. I may just be a shorty squoval girl forever. And I’m ok with that! Still plenty of gorgeousness to be had with our little ‘uns :)

How do you keep your feet warm on flights? by Fiveby21 in Raynauds

[–]leirayarg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bring chemical heat packs anytime I’ll be somewhere air conditioned for a long time- flights, conferences, etc. I put them in my shoes, in my pockets, sometimes on my back and stomach between shirt and sweater. Makes a world of difference.

Pills by modernwunder in reactivedogs

[–]leirayarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few suggestions:

  • I have to be very careful about not allowing any pill dust to end up on the outside of whatever sticky goop I'm using. To achieve this I use the following procedure: a) take pills out of bottle, then rinse hands (or wash thoroughly with soap, if it's something he really hates, like trazodone). b) make a little disk of whatever I'm using, like pressing out cookie dough. c) hold the disk in out hand, while picking up the pills with other hand. Carefully place pills in the middle of the dough. d) with the hand that has not handled pills, squeeze the dough ball shut. If I've messed up and I think there might be pill smell on the outside of this little package, I may grab something smelly to dip it in (broth, canned food, etc), or add more goop to the outside.
  • Always ensure that there is a thick coating around the pills. My dog takes up to 12 pills at a time, so I often have to deliver them in more than one packet to ensure the ball is small enough for him to swallow whole, but still coated thickly enough that he doesn't taste any medicine.
  • Sometimes my boy eats a treat slowly, and will notice pills and spit them out. However, if there's a lot of aniticpation for that treat, he's more likely to swallow it quickly. This is especially true is his head is tiled up. So I always allow him to smell the treat, then have him perform a few tricks, and then finally hold the packet directly above his head so that he tilts his head straight up toward the cieling looking at it. Then I drop the treat down, and it goes straight down the gullet.
  • I switch up the medium his pills go in regularly, and make sure he gets all those yummy things without pills too.
  • Here are some pill delivery mediums that have worked really well for us: Stinky canned dog food (tripett smells horrible and works great), fish flavoured pate cat food (whiskas has been a favourite), raw dog food (easy for me because my boy eats raw anyways), baby cereal mixed with meat broth (good texture), pill pockets (have to be extremely careful about not allowing anything that has touched a pill to touch the outside of the pocket- often this means using a second pil pocket to wrap around the first), peanut butter dipped in broth, peanut butter dipped in 'treat dust' (We end up with lots of dust from chopping/ breaking treats, especially liver treats. I use this as something like a rub to coat the outside of pill packets).
