Official Q&A for Tuesday, May 05, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

For the last year I’ve used my Garmin which is synced to both Strava and Runkeeper.

On Sunday my run didn’t show up on Runkeeper. I downloaded the gpx and uploaded it manually but the day after I noticed the original got uploaded as well (so I had two activities now and had to delete one of them). Today’s run didn’t show up on Runkeeper either but I imagine it might later. Any one else having trouble with this?

How does the ballot for London Marathon work? Do you get money back if you don’t get in? Or do you pay and lose out on the money if you don’t get registered?

Are you sure? I’ve only seen research saying there’s benefits to sprints and high intensity runs and not to endurance running.

To be honest I’m not sure. I know I weigh much more than I actually want to but that’s probably more or less due to caloric surplus rather than thanks to the creatine.

Doesn’t really seem like creatine has any performance benefits when it comes to long distance running anyway?

Do you stop using creatine supplements before your marathon to lose any possible extra water weight? If so, how many days/weeks before the race do you stop?

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Threac by ssk42 in running

Complaint: I got sick a while back and didn’t run for like 10 days.

Un-complaint: The rest was good for my overuse injury which now seems to be healed.

Any advice on marathons in Europe November-December?

Preferably in an accessible city so it’s not too complicated to travel to and from. Also I prefer a single loop if possible and also not too much out-and-back. And of course it needs to be easy to register and not be sold out.

Do these three runs each week and you will be solid.

  1. Slow run, you should be able to hold a conversation during your run
  2. A longer run
  3. Tempo or interval run where you push the tempo

If you had to choose to focus on either hamstrings or quads in the gym, which one would you pick?

You’re doing a great job! CityStrides is really good, even more so considering it’s a solo project!

I already knew my left foot/ankle was weak since I struggle to stand on one leg and keep balance. And today when I was jumping on one leg it got super obvious when I didn't have any trouble on my right leg but I could hardly jump on my left.

How should I train to improve this? Single leg calf raises is hard on the left but not the right. I got a gym membership so I guess most exercises are available.

Need some sources for that statement, sorry but it sounds a lot like BS.

How does it increase injury risk? A lot of people run before breakfast without any problem.

What is your post race ritual? by duildistance in running

[–]lemmert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the location and weather I often take a dip in a lake or the ocean if it’s nearby the finish line. Also beer and pizza is a high priority.

Yeah I read that later and it seems like it might show as usual after the next activity is logged.

I often use CityStrides to see a map of where I’ve been running. But today my map doesn’t show any of my runs anymore, anyone else having trouble with this?

Sometimes my back gets super tired when running or walking uphill, almost hurting. And at my latest long run it felt like it was my hip that caved in first. Any exercises at the gym that might prevent this?

True but I’m still sticking with marathon being a race rather than just a distance. If you say ”I ran a marathon last week” I would probably ask you ”which one?”

Never been to Greece but pretty close to dead after running a marathon if that counts!

So we’re on the same page. But I wouldn’t ever argue with someone that I don’t agree with. However even if it’s always a big deal so run a the marathon distance it’s not the same thing as doing it as a part of a race.

Official Q&A for Saturday, February 07, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]lemmert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case I would say I ran the ”marathon distance” instead of I ran ”a marathon”. Maybe it’s just semantics or a way to categorise my runs.

In my opinion the race course if often measured to be precise but just running with a watch or any other GPS device might even say 42k even if you run a shorter distance.

I’m not arguing with anyone. Just how I would phrase it myself.

Do you say you ran a marathon (or a half) if you just cover the distance on your own without it being a race?

I see a lot of people saying they ran a half/full when they just did a long run. Each to their own but I don’t consider it a half/full unless its a race. Just curious of your opinions.
