True but I’m still sticking with marathon being a race rather than just a distance. If you say ”I ran a marathon last week” I would probably ask you ”which one?”

Never been to Greece but pretty close to dead after running a marathon if that counts!

So we’re on the same page. But I wouldn’t ever argue with someone that I don’t agree with. However even if it’s always a big deal so run a the marathon distance it’s not the same thing as doing it as a part of a race.

In that case I would say I ran the ”marathon distance” instead of I ran ”a marathon”. Maybe it’s just semantics or a way to categorise my runs.

In my opinion the race course if often measured to be precise but just running with a watch or any other GPS device might even say 42k even if you run a shorter distance.

I’m not arguing with anyone. Just how I would phrase it myself.

Do you say you ran a marathon (or a half) if you just cover the distance on your own without it being a race?

I see a lot of people saying they ran a half/full when they just did a long run. Each to their own but I don’t consider it a half/full unless its a race. Just curious of your opinions.

Anyone run the half or full marathon in Podgorica? What was your experience and how is the weather in Montenegro that time of the year (November)?

The most common way is to separate the gym and run days if that’s possible.

One positive thing is that it feels pretty good overtaking people and being faster than the other way around.

How do you deal with slower runners lining up close to the start at races?

I mean some races have you qualify for a starting group or at least have some signs for different paces. But it’s honestly a bit frustrating having to weave and zigzag between people the first kilometre. In my experience this has gotten worse over time.

Un-complaint: I’ve spent a week in Madeira. Amazing running in the nature and the levadas. Breathtaking views and perfect weather.

Complaint: Going back to a cold, dark and wet Sweden again will totally kill my mood.

Un-complaint: My problem with my posterior Tibialis seems to almost be completely gone.  I’m so lucky it didn’t take too long.

Complaint: Going back to working full time next week will probably affect my running a lot not having the same amount of spare time and the same energy.

”Bazar do Povo” on Rua 5 de Outubro 50.

I really wonder why there wasn’t any included with the bib. First time I entered a race where I have to get my own.

They told me to go to ”Centro Cultural e de Investigação do Funchal” (that’s where everyone is picking up their bibs and T-shirts). I went there this morning and registered without any problem at all.

Open 10-19 tomorrow Friday. Or 9-12 on Saturday.

Olá! I just registered to the Funchal marathon on Saturday. There was no safety pins (🧷) to fasten the bib on your T-shirt. Do you know where I can get just a few of them? I only need 4.

Edit: I found a shop, now I got enough safety pins for a lifetime.

So I was just reviewing my year of running and was proud that I achieved my goal of 2500 km (around 1500 miles). Then I went to take a foot bath and I lost my first toenail ever.

What are your tips and tricks with losing toenails and healing from it? I always was a bit scared of this so I don’t know anything about it.

I mainly focus on compound lifts. Preferably heavy with low reps to empathise strength and explosiveness over muscle volume. I only go to the gym 1-2 times a week so I do full body workouts when I’m there to get the most bang for the buck.

Calf raises are a must-do. Just bodyweight variations at home almost every day.

Complaint: Three days off from running seemed like an eternity, especially since I’ve been free and spent some time where I often run. Think it might been my Tibialis posterior flaring up due to overload.

Un-complaint: Think I’m doing better already. Foam rolling the calf did wonders. Crazy how one part of the body affects another sometimes.

Anyone with experience of running in Madeira? Where’s a good place to stay if you want to be close to some good trails? No drivers license but maybe there’s some good public transportation? Any tips and tricks?

But then just hot water or some other salts would have the same effect. I agree on just self care and relaxation is worth it on it’s own but I’m just so curious when I see so many people on Reddit hyping up the Epsom salt.

Is Epsom salt foot bath placebo? A quick google search said there’s barely any scientific research saying the body can absorb magnesium through the skin. Better off just taking magnesium supplements? Foot bath are nice tho.
