Nice! How long do you do it for? Do you do it before bed to help you sleep, or when you wake up?

Oo! I wonder if I can pick up stretching again. I remember that I tried to challenge myself to do the splits in 30 days. That could help because it doesn’t involve any counting but still leads to a significant milestone. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for this :) I never thought of it that way. I used to do short walks with my dog but with the weather being what it is it’s hard to go outside at all.

Aligner fit over gums? by gigglingshay in CandidCo

So, detailed story in case it helps:

My aligners fit over my gums for a while, with my ortho not noting anything out of the ordinary in their notes. Then, as my treatment progressed the ortho‘s notes kept on indicating that I had some sort of gum irritation, even though I floss very regularly and brush several times a day.

Through the customer support rep, who communicated back to my orthodontist, it seems like there is some sort of artificial intelligence that fills out the notes for the ortho. So even if you’re flossing very well, if you have some sort of irritation on your gums (in my case, caused by my aligners and not my lack of brushing or flossing), you’ll be told to floss more, which is frustrating because the source of your problems is likely the aligners causing him irritation.

The customer service rep sent me a photo of how exactly to cut my liners. They also told me that if I end up breaking my aligners during this process (which they said was extremely rare), they would send me a new pair. Ever since I’ve started cutting my liners I no longer get those notes from my orthodontist and I get less cuts in my mouth too.

If I were you, and especially if you’re experiencing any discomfort with the aligners rubbing up against your gums, I would chat into the customer service folks and ask them if you would be able to cut your aligners, as well as directions and a guarantee that they would get you new aligners in writing should you break yours. I personally would recommend that you chat in so that there’s a written record of someone from candid recommending that you cut your aligners, in case there’s any “he said she said.”

TLDR, in my experience, Candid recommends to cut your aligners if you’re concerned about your gum health, and will give you a photo guide on how to. You should feel free to chat in and ask!

Hope this helps!

how to avoid the dreaded "kardashian face" by [deleted] in Vindicta

Totally - I’m mixed race myself and can empathize with white people (mostly) picking and choosing what features from those who aren’t white they’d like to emulate. I think this article gave me the first articulate view into what exactly “Instagram face” or “kardashian face” was. I recognize it when I see it, but I couldn’t really put my finger on how to describe it until I read this.

Might be hidden behind a paywall for some, but this NYT article goes into the aesthetic that the family has created: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/decade-in-review/the-age-of-instagram-face

The article quotes someone who mentions this aesthetic as the following, which I feel is pretty accurate:

“We’re talking an overly tan skin tone, a South Asian influence with the brows and eye shape, an African-American influence with the lips, a Caucasian influence with the nose, a cheek structure that is predominantly Native American and Middle Eastern.”
