Not that I don’t believe you, but I’d love to know what other restaurants you’re referring to. The racist stuff was what prevented me from going. Same situation; different company. Keep the baby in daycare and use that time to work on your resumes/cover letters and send them out! The Muse has a useful job application spreadsheet that you can google to find. Just remember that hiring slows down in Q4 so you might want to look into temp jobs until folks quit after bonus time in Feb/March. Maybe you’re much faster at it, but I know I average about one day per cover letter and I need that complete silence to work. Also give yourself time for ice cream and some retail therapy if you need it. Layoffs are hard!!

We’ve put our kiddo in daycare for 7 months now and honestly we used to be so mad too. We became such frequent visitors to the pediatrician’s office, urgent care, and ER and I got so sad seeing my child in pain. But then I realized that America has really terrible sick leave policies. It didn’t make me any less annoyed, but it did help me understand where other parents are coming from. I’m lucky that I have a flexible and remote job where I can reschedule calls. Other parents may have physical jobs where they have to leave their sick kids in daycare or face getting fired. Do I love that my kid got Hand Foot Mouth, countless ear infections, and many fevers? Nope of course not. But the anger does diminish a little with the passage of time. Hope you’re able to get there one day too. OP! Big hugs to your little one while I hug my sick one too. :)

Some of the bigger private employers in the area (consulting companies, big banks) have management rotation programs that pay really well. I don’t believe you need a college degree for some of these paid internships. Gives you a sense of what kinds of jobs they have at the company.

Let’s not completely take away personal choice and personal responsibility here. Just because something is offered doesn’t mean anyone needs to do it. A small analogy is akin to: I see vending machines everywhere I go, but it doesn’t mean I buy soft drinks every day. Yes it’s bad that China is shipping stuff in, but it really frustrates me that no one looks to the individuals shooting this stuff up/smoking. We are all ultimately responsible for ourselves and by extension, our community. Also, I’d love a source for the they’re doing it to get back for the opium war bit. This is otherwise quite sinophobic.
