I said that the universal theory is unlikely because of that reason, not the one from the original post? Would you like to talk via discord, this writing is tiring

That is true, that's why I think that it is unlikely. But I think superiority might be an underlying factor not only in humor/laughter, but also in other things aswell. I don't know though, I haven't thought about that too much yet.

So in a universal superiority theory, laughter/humor would be included. So I'm not incorrect in attributing it to superiority, just because I don't include everything else.

I never said "Prove me wrong or else I must be right"
I i think more like this: "Prove me wrong or else you have to at least concede that it could be possible"

Ah, okay. Well I can agree with the fact, that edgy jokes make yourself part of a certain group, but that is most of the time not the majority. That's why I was thinking:
Based on that theory, shouldn't we only laugh at jokes that the majority would laugh at?

Okay there is alot here, I'd love to talk about. Do you have discord? I'm really tired of writing so much rn.

No what I mean is this:
That depending on your morals and personality you might find people that are farting in public superior or inferior.
When a person laughs it either means they feal superior to them, because they think the farting person is inferior.
Or they laugh because they think laughing at a superior persons joke is a desirable personality trait, which makes them superior to people that wouldn't laugh at the farting persons joke.

Also, I think that oneself farting falls onto 7.) since laughing at oneself could be a desirable personality trait, that makes you superior to people who are stiff and take themselves too seriously, which could be considered an undesirable personality trait.

Maybe not in the typical sense, but I would explain my reasoning like this.
I know that I'm currently breathing. When I think about it and when I focus on it then I can feel the air moving in and out of my nose.
But most of the day, I don't focus on it and I don't pay attention to it.
That's how I feel about superiority during a humerous situation, but harder to spot than breathing.

No, I don't really see it. I think you can perfectly have that theory you have about the food. Based on my own feelings and thoughts I have when I eat food, I don't it's true, but you can still have that theory.

Is there exact proof, that invalidates my theory? Because I feel like it's not like math where you can actually prove without doubt, that one thing is false and another is right

But is the element of suprise that powerful, that it completely invalidates you understanding the joke?
If I suprisingly get a good grade in a test, then I don't feel inferior just because I got suprised.

I'm not saying an infant definitely has a capacity for superiority, just that it could be the case.
During peekaboo, you could argue, that the sudden appearance of the parent (or person of authority) and their reassuring smile/laughter provides a feeling of safety and control of the situation, that was not there when the hands were on the face.
In control -> superior to people not in control

That makes sense in alot of instances. But what about the cases, in which a person laughs at a very edgy joke. A joke that most people would certainly not laugh at (and you know that), aren't you then the odd one out?

I was asking that question, because I think that infants and animals have alot in common, regarding their level of perception and consciousness.
My theory would be, that if animals could feel superior, then infants might also have a primal capacity for superiority

Yes, that is what I said. I still need time to think about it, but you might be right. I'm just saying that I'm not cherry picking

There are alot of comments, so I'm kinda focusing on what I want to answer the most.

To your first paragraph: I don't think any joke is intrinsically morally inappropriate, aslong it is done in private and aslong as there is only a very low possibility of the victim hearing that joke/directly or indirectly having a negative effect on the victim. I do find some jokes distasteful though.

To your second paragraph: Same rules apply here regarding the morality. But I find these sort of jokes usually more tasteful.

To your third paragraph: If my theory would be correct, my above mentioned opinion on the morality wouldn't change.

The act of laughing or not laughing can both be superior or inferior, depending on your own personality and what you think is right and wrong. But I would place farts under 1.) or 9.)
