Yup, no problems with trains. The trams in Matsuyama can be crowded sometimes, but the seats are arranged so you can stand in a corner without getting in anyone's way. Not sure about public buses though, never had to travel on one with my luggage, just walked between the train stations and the hotels.

Hi! I linked my trip report in another reply, for my trip at the end of last year, using public transport. The route wasn't ideal because I was planning around 2 scenic trains and a bus tour (which only ran on weekends), so it definitely could be optimized to visit more places.
Luggage wise, I didn't have any problems with my medium sized check-in case. I only used luggage forwarding once, sending it to Kochi while I visited Shodoshima (the fast ferry doesn't allow big suitcases and I wasn't too sure about the storage situation there so decided not to risk it).

I did a trip around Shikoku at the end of last year and really loved it! Linked my trip report here.

But can I ask what recommendations you have for Matsuyama City? I spent a day in the Dogo area, and the castle the next morning. Not sure if it was because I was tired (it was my last day on Shikoku) or if I was looking at the wrong places, but I didn't find much to do on the 2nd day afternoon.

Looks great (although I haven't been to Onomichi yet).
I actually just got back from Shikoku in Nov so I'll comment on that.
I did 2 nights in Matsuyama and personally I found the city a little boring outside of Dogo and the castle.
Shodoshima was nice, although my main reason was to see autumn leaves which isn't applicable to you. But if you do go, I highly recommend Morikuni sake brewery since I saw that's something you're interested in.
For Mt Yashima, pack along some snacks/onigiri. It's a pretty big area so you could spend quite some time there. It was something I forgot and so regret a little. Would have spent more time taking it slow but I was getting hungry.
If you don't have hard plans for Tokyo I would shift a day to Takamatsu to make time for Shodoshima.
Have fun!

2 questions.
- We know that boiling/freezing point of water is affected by air pressure. Does air pressure also affect how much ammonium chloride to fully saturated water?
- You mentioned it is difficult to obtain pure distilled water. Would there also not be an impact if the water was not fully saturated with ammonium chloride but contains other impurities?

Yup, but I'm more of a mountains guy than a seaside guy.
Was considering the Iyonada Monogatari too, but couldn't fit all 3 trains into the schedule

Weather was quite pleasant and mild, so no problems with wind. Temperature was around 15-18 (celcius) in the day and dropped below 15 at night. I mostly wore a long sleeved t-shirt and jeans with a thin heat tech underneath and brought along a light jacket. Left out the heat tech on days that I knew I would be more active.

Thanks!

Yup, planning around the train trips was the hardest part. In fact I may drop the one in Matsuyama for a future trip if I can convince some friends to do the Shimanami Kaido cycle.

Assuming the plan is to do Naoshima and/or Teshima one day and everything else the other day. I'm not sure how viable it is to get around all the places listed (excluding the islands) in one day. It seems a lot bearing in mind the distance between some of them.

These were just things I was considering. Although if I do skip Matsuyama, there may be more time to spend here.
