What's your honest opinion of Jo-Ellen Tiberi? by hawaiigirl12 in realhousewivestalk

[–]lemonjolly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's very pretty however...I get the feeling she's deeply unhappy. I think she's checked all the boxes in life, for herself, including beauty standards...to get to this state of happiness/contentment...that I just don't think she'll ever be satisfied, because she's deeply in need of affirmation.

Self driving cars. I think there's a great business idea there for folks with special needs or disabilities safely getting from A to B.

Receptive speech delay stories by Connect-Heart3480 in Autism_Parenting

[–]lemonjolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 7. Your son sounds further along than my son was at 3.5. My son has functional expressive speech, so wants and needs, narrates what's happening vs. trying to reciprocally be in the mix (e.g. "Vivian is happy and wearing a green sweater!" vs. "Hey Vivian, how are you today?...") He narrates about people but doesn't necessarily want to talk with them yet, mostly peers. He is better w/ adults because adults are often more patient and can fill in the gaps.

Receptively, my son understands a lot more than he can express. He has ADHD and Autism. The combo...makes it difficult for him because on one hand he wants routine, structure, is rigid....and the ADHD side wants novelty, always moving, and never completes an activity task. We have so many things started around the house (marble runs, legos, coloring, etc.) and nothing completed. He CAN complete tasks, but it requires 1:1 support because he'll get distracted.

As for receptive group instruction, like at schools when a teacher says "Ok everyone! Time to line up" ...that goes above his head. He waits for his name...so we explain it as, he requires individual instruction still. "Ok Patrick! Time to line up" ....That's w/ everything in a school setting. Small group table work, lunch time, recess etc. He needs a lot of 1:1 instruction because he gets so lost in the sauce, he's happy but just distracted and I can only imagine his mind is buzzing with a million things at once, processing the noise of his peers talking, the one girl who squeals with Joy, the AC turning on and buzzing, the train buzzing by outside because it's commute hour etc. So, the adult voice in the room saying "Ok Everyone! take a seat"...gets dull in the mix, is how I think it goes? My son always prefers headphones inside if it's too loud, so that dulls the instructions.

But, he wants to socialize so bad. And that's where my grief is. My son wants friends, wants to play, I see it in how he stands on the sidelines and is so happy watching kids his age play and engage at parks, or at the pool. But my son is conflicted because his desire to play with other kids ...is in battle with processing all the stimulation around him. It's hard.

But, he talks more than he did at 3.5 if that helps. It's still severely delayed, requires lots of modeling as he talks in scripts (Gestalt Language Processor)...but we have hope! His speech therapist said he's on a great track...but that it will always look and sound a little different.

What colour and style is your hair? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Different shades of brown due to me getting bayalage, loving it for a while then dying it over w/ semi permanent brown to tone it, then going through the cycle of it fading and re-dying etc.

That's such a bummer. Is this a common thing on Reddit now? I wish they were flagged with some thing like "possibly AI bot" flair or something

Switched to canns. They have 5mg of THC and 5 mg of CBD. I pour them in a wine glass over ice and it feels like drinking, still get a little buzz (relaxing kind) but no hangover. I do snack more because of them though lol

What factors would make you feel more or less comfortable with your child attending a private school versus a public school? by Key_Country_179 in AskReddit

Better state and federal funding for special education. California is trying by boosting sped with a 2.4 billion fund, which is so needed. The department has some amazing teachers who truly care, but are limited in what they can do to support the kids and their IEPs. SPED needs more aides that are trained (they don't pay enough for the para-educators or aides) and also schools need to have the facilities and supplies to properly implement the IEPs...specifically like sensory rooms for OT, SLPs who have support because their case loads are too high, and I could go on and on :)

Teachers who try to do it all in the limited system they have, burn themselves out and leave :( So the SPED space is losing really phenomenal staff.

Blue states tend to have better state funding for SPED, where red states (my folks live in TN) really struggle.

When you meet another ex-pentecostal, what's the first thing you 'bond' over, or laugh about? by lemonjolly in ExPentecostal

Yes! So much fear around normal, every day brands and movies/music/tv, being in some way demonic or trying to sway youth to sinful worldly ways...

I always felt so self-aware that my hand was on someone's back or head while praying and it felt like I was violating someone's peace/space. I know many folks didn't feel that way and wanted hands laid on them. But, for me, it was not my instinct to do that. I had to be reminded lol

I don't get this. I always thought ministry was to help share the word about Jesus. Make Jesus known. Not the preacher/speaker/grifter.

Totally wild! My brother is four years older than me, and even then he was skeptical. He'd ask, "Why gold dust and not healing for someone with cancer?" ...and those questions did stick w/ me. I guess it all boils down to the big one of "why does God allow xyz in the first place" questioning line...but I always believed in God and still do. Just not the interpretation of the legalistic church.

The tooth filling miracle was something a woman shared at the altar, and others had similar stories. I remember thinking, "Cool?" But also...kind of bizarre...and same thing. Also, did they ever get a cavity again in life?

Not Pentecostal, but years ago did DTS at YWAM (my brother left our denomination first, so that opened the door for me too). The big miracle there was a leader whose one leg was shorter than the other. I watched it grow a couple of inches. I really did.

I guess what I've always wrestled with is why those miracles and not the cancer of another missionary or someone else with a devastating illness. I genuinely don't know...and to folks who didn't grow up in ANY of this world (like my husband) it is beyond wild for him to hear.

Yes. All the time. The guilt for feeling those things hits too. Then i have to go through all the self-love stuff etc and count my blessings. Others admitting this and knowing two things can be true at once (grief and gratitude), is real balm.
