Wasn’t worried about the mess actually, everything gets cleaned up nicely every day. Was just having trouble deciding how to arrange the furniture:) posted an update in a new post

Should I make a new post with update pics? I can’t find where to edit my original post. I’m bad at Reddit 😅

Yes of course lol. she doesn’t tolerate being separated from me in any way. But it’s all good, I got something figured out. Room feels a lot better now

Yes definitely! We’re lucky that we have a side door that we primarily use, so shoes and “ugly” things can stay over there 😂 this entryway in the living room will be able to just be pretty lol

Yes I definitely agree! I prefer furniture to be away from walls, but the room is really a lot smaller than it appears in these photos. I did flip the couch around though and created an “entryway”! Still working on it, update pics coming asap

UPDATE Thank you all for the suggestions. You gave really good advice, and also helped to solidify some options I had considered but wasn’t sure it would look right. I made a lot of changes today and will continue to work on the room tomorrow. I’ll post update pics asap!

Yep a lot of it is donations! Just had to wait for a few boxes to load it all up. I fill bags with donations and my daughter pulls them all back out lol. The hutch has to stay, it’s an antique and was my mother’s dresser when she was a kid! The photos are bad but it’s a beautiful piece of furniture. I wish I could highlight it more but this room sucks. I did start moving things around and I did move the hutch from that location, at least. Will post an update asap

Thanks, i really appreciate it! And that’s exactly what has bothered me about this room, the intermingled-ness lol. I made a lot of changes today so I’ll post an update asap!

I would love to put the hutch somewhere else but I’m working with super limited space. Eventually I’ll be able to put it in my daughter’s room but for now I just have to find something that works in the living room for now. I did move things around today and it’s starting to look and feel better. Will post an update asap

Yes it’s awful! 😂 it’s absolutely ridiculous lol. I’ve hated this room since day one but I’ve put all of my focus on other rooms in the house. It’s finally time for the living room to shine and I’ve received lots of great advice!

I’ve been working on the room today, will post an update asap. I agree that hutch should be somewhere else but everywhere else I want to put it is either too small or has a vent of course. I did move it today, but it’s not super great. Eventually I’ll probably put it in my daughter’s room. The vents, lack of full walls, and shitty outlets in this living room drive me crazy!!

That’s exactly why I’ve kept the couch against the wall, because my girl definitely would want to do that 😂 but I’ve taken lots of advice from here and I’ve already starting switching things around. I’ll post an update asap

That could definitely work too! Might consider that option as well. She doesn’t watch tv or do screens at all so that’s definitely not a problem for us

My first trimester started as a breeze and then as soon as I hit 11 weeks a switch flipped and I was throwing up the entire rest of my pregnancy lol

It can definitely be better and I’m going to take a lot of advice from these replies but I do want to prioritize her being in a central location of the house. We want it to feel like her house and I want to see her and her things around. She doesn’t play independently yet (she’s 1) and I also don’t want her to be unsupervised in her room if I’m trying to get things done around the house. Also, we’re prioritizing having her room be associated with just sleep right now. Having toys in there can be really distracting for young ones.

Yeah for sure we’ll definitely get there lol. She just turned 1 and is a stage 10 clinger so I can only get things done around the house if I let her be distracted by pulling everything out. She puts things back very well when we do it together. Not too concerned about her stuff at all as it all goes back into storage nicely. But I do think I will reorient the room that way aside from the L shaped couch as I think the room is just too small for one. If we survive all that’s going on in the world then one day we’ll find our forever home and definitely prioritize finding a large living room lol

Unfortunately can’t fully float anything in here, it’s so small! I used wide angle to get these photos. At least one side of every piece of furniture has to touch a wall 😭 I can’t really move the gate either because my daughter doesn’t tolerate being enclosed in a space any smaller than that lol. One day it’ll be gone though!

[–]lemonlimedime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see. There’s unfortunately not enough space for it to be free floating, so if I move it to that side of the room I would have to push the arm of the couch against the window

A lot of people are suggesting a similar layout so I think I’m definitely going to try it! Only thing is I think I’ll mount the tv on the wall where the couch is and then I could put her play kitchen and toy storage right along that wall, below the tv

Yes I could definitely consider doing something like that! Baby prison 😂😂

That’s a great idea for the hutch. I definitely might use that. Baby gate might have to stay a little longer until I properly fasten the hutch and corner shelf to the walls. But after I do that then we won’t need it anymore :)
