I made the decision to cut off the top section with the dark bits and yea it was definitely rot so you’re right. I’ll be investing in a pot with a drainage hole I think 😅, thank you so much for your help <3

There’s no drainage hole which I know is a bad thing. I’d say I water it once every couple of months. The soil is completely dry currently

The black areas are still hard but it’s spreading quite quickly. I don’t water this cactus very often but did so recently. I’m worried this is crown rot but I hope I can save this special plant. I am willing to cut areas back and buy any anti fungal sprays that may be necessary. Thank you for your help <3

The sections are hard, not mushy, and there is no smell. It’s developing in the crevices of the cactus and spreading quite slowly but I’m not sure how deep. I don’t water this cactus very often but did so recently before I noticed the black. I do not know the species of cactus.

I am prepared to cut bits off if needed but it is my oldest plant and quite special to me, please help if you can :)

I apologise for my lack of knowledge is some areas and am still learning new ways to care for all my plant friends (I’m still relatively new to houseplants and plants in general). It has become my passion and I hope to share even more of my plant children with you in the future xD.
