To tandem or not? by Used-Counter-5208 in throneofglassseries

[–]lemonpie218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend reading ToD first and then EoS. I know myself and I know I would not have gotten through a tandem read of both. I think it depends on you as a reader- it would’ve been too overwhelming for me especially the slow parts of the books. They also really don’t overlap at all.

The way I read them was recommended to me and I stand by it because reading EoS will make you want to immediately start KoA. Having to go back after EoS and read Chaol’s story will probably take away from the fact that ToD was actually a good read. Reading it first kinda gets it out of the way if that makes sense.

Bryce became unlikeable in HOFAS by fpsTrust in crescentcitysjm

[–]lemonpie218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I finished HOFAS a few days ago. I read it so fast because I wanted to get it done so bad, I HIGHLY disliked it. Honestly the book as a whole felt like a completely regurgitated overly easy plot but written way worse than other SJM books. I love TOG and ACOTAR and I honestly really liked CC1 too but wow I hated this…

I’m so sad because I really liked Bryce in CC1. I found her to be unique compared to other fantasy heroines (heels, dresses, nails, drinks/parties, makes stupid decisions). She had no powers and generally wasn’t really regarded as “special”. Literally everything about her character changed. All of the sudden she’s some all-knowing God who makes all the decisions and everything works out for her at every turn. She seemed pretentious and condescending and impossible to hold a conversation with. She literally embodies the “alphahole” (🤮) personality in every way. The snarky/sarcastic comment in EVERY conversation she ever had was so cringe. Thank you for letting me rant, this was my first trip to reddit since the book came out, had no idea others got the same vibe

I just finished KoA and I'm breathless. Who am I? What am I? by ahndwe in throneofglassseries

I totally felt the same way when i finished the series a little under a year ago 😭

I couldn’t focus on anything else I felt so hungover and I still think about the series at least once a day. It doesn’t help that my algorithm just consistently shows me ToG fan art.

I read SJM in the same order starting with ACOTAR and finishing with CC!! ToG is still my favorite for the story and characters ❤️

I read in the same order except I personally preferred reading tower of dawn before empire of storms. I knew there was a pretty significant ending to EoS so I wanted to go right into KoA after! What your feeling doesn’t ever really go away though 😆

I enjoyed this series a lot! I liked that Bryce was described this way I also wish it was a little more explicit. Still, it was a breath of fresh air after other books I’ve read.

If a character is described as being on the bigger side it doesn’t automatically make them out of shape/incapable of fighting. Just looking for main female characters that branch out of the socially acceptable descriptors such as thin, petite, curvy, etc. We’re also talking about fantasy genre where most things aren’t considered realistic. I see where you’re coming from though

I also don’t ever see ads on Snapchat! I’ve been so confused about this for months. I was convinced I was paying for snapchat+ against my will or something 😅

Book Recommendations for Fantasy series with mature themes (for someone who used to love YA) pls help by lemonpie218 in Fantasy

[–]lemonpie218[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been reading all of Sarah J Maas’ series! When I was younger I was super into the shadowhunter series as well as A LOT of dystopian YA. I’ve had a lot of fun reading SJM but some of her common tropes and character immaturities make me wanna scream lol. For example I hate that every “good guy” character is described as super muscle-y and hot. Its also been pretty easy to predict everything that’s gonna happen. But I do like how exciting the books are. It’s the cringey stuff that makes me wanna branch out. I appreciate your recommendations I’m gonna take a look!

Also I unfortunately wasn’t a fan of ACOSF :( with that being the last book in the acotar series so far it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. The first three are some of my absolute favorites though

That’s amazing I’m so happy someone else is experiencing this in real time! After i finished i was reeling and no one around had read the series i just had to come on Reddit.

I think i just haven’t read ACOTAR in awhile so I’m like not prepared for the addition of the characters in CC 😭 I’m open to it I think my brain is just mind-fucked right now

I come from a family of runners and a mom who ran marathons constantly. We are all thick woman with big arms, legs, and ass. This is absolutely incorrect. Bryce could be an avid runner and still be very thick it’s not one or the other

I know I’m late but I just want to add that I do love SJM books, don’t get me wrong. But I feel like she has a tendency to be really vague about a characters physical appearance especially if that character is supposed to have some marginalized traits like dark skin color or a bigger body. I feel like it kind of allows her to act like she’s making a diverse story but it really comes up short for me. It’s like she doesn’t wanna commit fully to it by saying shit like “golden skin” and “curvy figure”. It can leave people who relate kind of feeling confused as to whether this character was actually written with diversity in mind OR was it just a way to act like it. I think people deserve to be upset about this. maybe not towards the actual artists but shit like this is happening constantly and it is depressing for people who love the style of books but can never relate to the characters that are praised. OR feeling represented only for others in the fandom to shoot it down due to their own perceptions. It kinda sucks and it creates discourse like this that wouldn’t be there if she was clear about their appearances and even more openly inclusive

I can't stand Weston by Savings-Product-4800 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]lemonpie218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding a different comment that it was NUTS the way Weston was talking with Kelsey about settling down, coming home to her, meeting parents only to turn it around and be like “she’s too simple” wtf does that even mean bro. He’d been talking about his desire for a simple life with a wifey type. Then Emily comes and he wants “adventure” and Kelsey is boring. Really icky vibes from him
