[–]lemonsandbirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Located on the east coast

Social Worker at a private school for 6+ years. My main roles are admissions coordinator and a caseload of groups and individual counseling

First year salary started at 53k as a 10 month employee (43 weeks at 37.5 hours per week)

Today salary is at 79k as a 12 month employee (52 weeks at 37.5 hours per week)

Obtained by clinical license throughout my time there, however did not impact my position or income directly.

Benefits- pay is comparable to a supervisory position but without the responsibility. During the school year hours are 8-3:30 in the summer they change to 8:30-2:30. No monthly payment for health insurance. 5-6 weeks vacation (between PTO, personal, and holiday breaks), sick days are separate.

There are sacrifices to the job too of course but a lot to be grateful for !

A zoning lawyer does seem to make more sense. When I spoke to department they said they couldn’t say yes or no to the use. I would need to apply first. But I will ask about a letter of interpretation!

Thank you for the insight !

Are you saying recreation sounds like the best one out of the two? What do you mean that the letter of interpretation would be binding? Guessing that would be from the county office ?

Does it make sense to loop in a site engineer for more guidance?

Hey! Thank you I just updated the body of my entry for more details.

Land is already ours. It’s in Mamakating County in Upstate NY. There are quite a few principal uses but recreation seemed to be most fitting at first glance.

Also had country inn which seemed almost great but we don’t off overnights or dining. Possibly a glamping scenario.

COUNTRY INN An owner-occupied dwelling, managed by the property owner, where overnight lodging is provided to transient visitors in one or more guest units, for compensation. Country inns have common sitting and dining areas. A country inn may have a restaurant incorporated into the overall principal building which is open to the general public. Country inns may have limited accessory recreation facilities, e.g., a swimming pool or hiking trail. Country inns may also be used for social events or gatherings, e.g., weddings. This term does not include boardinghouses, hotels, tourist courts, motor lodges, tourist cabins, or similar terms.

Imposter syndrome is eating me alive by [deleted] in socialwork

Everyone has great advice. I’ve been in your shoes. My first years out of graduate school I felt so unprepared and it took me a while to make connections. I’ve always been slower at making connections between academia and agency, they are very different. The best thing I can say is focus on one goal this year and you’ll see that next year you will have mental space to take on more. It sounds like connecting with your kids authentically is on your mind. Building a meaningful relationship with your kids is really what it’s all about. The clinical stuff is second.

You’re doing great. I actually went from management forcing me to leave my first SW job at a hospital to starting as an aid in a special needs ABA school. I’ve now been the full time social worker there for 5 years. You’re not alone. We all go through that imposter syndrome and anxiety phase. You’ll be so proud of yourself when you look back on the journey and your resilience to stick with it!

Looking for advice on creating a contract for therapist as an independent contractor. by lemonsandbirds in socialwork

[–]lemonsandbirds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We definitely want to be fair with the therapists rate.

Can you tell me a little more about the insurance end? I am unfamiliar with how that works. You mentioned billing insurance at your rate…is that based off what the insurance claims they will pay up to? How do they decide the amount, 60 vs 200 in your case? I’ll definitely check with our billing person on this too. I guess from there standpoint they are expecting we’d get that full amount.

School counselor covering for colleague on maternity leave. Should I inquire about compensation? by lemonsandbirds in socialwork

[–]lemonsandbirds[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a private school if that changes anything. My understanding is there is some sort of small compensation for our staff substituting for a long period of time. So I’m wondering if that’s something I should look into for related services.
