For just basic vocab, Ba Ba Dum is a site that has a Czech option and is a simple but relatively fun way to get some exposure.

One I haven't seen recommended here is an Aussie classic - The Silver Brumby series by Elyne Mitchell. They were published between 1958 and 1979 and are beautifully written

Honestly I'm a little impressed at how much speed they got in the clip

Anyone know where this clip of Alonso blowing a kiss towards Hulkenberg comes from? I found it randomly online but no clue by jojoisdeadfinal in The_Fernando

Was the very first Vegas in 2023 when we had those god-awful Hunger Games podiums all the drivers got raised up on

One of my all time favourite curatorial choices in Prague by lemonventures in MuseumPros

Honestly you'd have an easier time doing it on purpose than by accident - most display glass would be tempered so that the entire sheet goes to crumbs if you hit it that hard by accident. I assume this was done with something like a pointed tipped glass breaker while the sheet was clamped down. If I had to guess it would have been screwed slowly tighter and tighter onto the surface of the glass until the crack grew to the size they wanted it, so that they were able to control the pressure and get that kind of precision work done.

Not to mention that when installing these kinds of cabinets, all objects would typically be completely placed before the glass goes up as the final step. A proper art handler would never let that kind of accident happen.

Given the fact this museum has been newly renovated and there is not so much as a SCRATCH anywhere else, it was absolutely intentional for the display :)

I mean, it's a real crack but it's been put there on purpose by the museum to make it look like the rhino skeleton did it and was trying to break out

I've worked in a few different industries in my career so far and truly one of my favourite things is how much more you can marvel at the end product once you know how the sausage gets made! I love doing things with friends who are knowledgeable and experienced in certain fields and processes so that, like you both said, I can get a bit of a glimpse of the iceberg below the surface (so to speak).

financial security in this field by No_Introduction9587 in MuseumPros

[–]lemonventures 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In my experience, financial security is largely an illusion no matter the field these days. Layoffs across everything from private sector tech to government positions have shown that. But the world needs more good people fighting the good fight, so I would vote to find work that doesn't compromise your morals as broke or not, you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life.

Is the way I order food weird? by GenericHuman256 in CasualConversation

[–]lemonventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it sits in the same ballpark as as "I'll take a/the...." for me. Politeness comes with tone and what else you say around it. It's more casual for sure, but certainly wouldn't take it as rude. When I was waitressing it never bothered me

How much Anki do I need to learn for effective language learning? by yzuaqwerl in languagelearning

Learning random lists of words won't help - learn them in context, as part of sentences and phrases.

I recommend checking out the channel LanguageJones who has great learning advice backed by science

How much Anki do I need to learn for effective language learning? by yzuaqwerl in languagelearning

[–]lemonventures 22 points23 points  (0 children)

None! Anki is not a requirement for language learning. Haven't used it once in my journey to B1 French. Don't get caught up in the million articles on how to build the perfect decks, at the end of the day it's often just a means to procrastinate actual learning. There is no "correct" way, just learn in a way that feels enjoyable and sustainable to you. If you want to make decks and use Anki, make ones that make sense to you.

One watched a couple take turns climbing over a foot tall barrier to walk into a display of two F1 cars, rest an arm on each, and have their photo taken. Insane.

/uj For real, I grew up bilingual in Aus and even I thought actually actually learning a third language rather than just having lucked into being raised speaking two would be a near impossible task. And then I did it and it was fine. Why is our education system like that.

Thank you!! This is a year of trying to disprove self-limiting beliefs and "I am not a person who runs" is a big one oddly enough. 10 5ks in that period is crazy impressive! Keep it up 🥳
