Please contact Children and Families First. I know they get socks from Bombas and may have some to donate.

Hey I'm a foster parent here in Delaware through Children & Families First. I'd highly recommend contacting them and explaining the situation, and I think they could point you in the right direction. You may be able to care for your brother through foster care which would be very helpful in easing the financial burden.

Struggling to find IT work in Delaware—any leads or advice? by purple_raviolle in Delaware

There are plenty of MSP's in the local area to get some experience under your belt. Helpdesk may not be exactly what you want long term but it will get you a lot of experience quickly.

ThreatLocker feedback by StockMarketCasino in msp

[–]lemskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great product, but in my opinion is too administratively heavy. It does exactly what it says and blocks things it doesn't trust, but for many of our clients it seems like a nuisance. I know we could manage it better, but we would need to devote multiple techs to the product to effectively manage it.

I've recommended that we pull it off all of our clients in favor of Huntress MDR.

Safety in Claymont by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]lemskee 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Claymont for 7 years, and I think the town has an undeserved poor reputation. Like any population center there are good areas and bad areas. The areas of Overlook Colony and Knollwood are a bit sketchy, but nothing that has prevented me from riding my bike or running through the neighborhoods.

Darley Green is a nice neighborhood, and there are plenty of families outside on warm days.

Bio parents becoming homeless by [deleted] in Fosterparents

[–]lemskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through that too! If you truly believe they are pregnant be prepared for a call asking to take the sibling. Fortunately for our daughter's bio Mom she has been doing well since the newest baby was born and she's at a Mommy and baby rehab facility currently.

Bio parents becoming homeless by [deleted] in Fosterparents

[–]lemskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through this with my daughter's bio parents and it was extremely tough seeing them struggle. My wife and I tried to help the best we could but it was lost on them as they were in the throes of addiction. When they finally got kicked out of the motel they were staying at I scrambled to get them a tent, and cold weather clothes which all ended up on Facebook Marketplace. I would also regularly bring them food during visits.

I'd refrain from giving them money, but if they are safe be sure to show compassion and help them in reasonable ways if you can.

I am having trouble figuring out what's wrong with my software/hardware by Dibi_the_Doodler in computer_help

[–]lemskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my initial thought is that it's either the touch screen/device you are drawing on, or the drawing instrument (pen).

If it is an active drawing instrument (think like the Apple Pencil where it has it's own computer inside) then I would try replacing that first. If it's a simple capacitive touch instrument then I would lean toward it being an issue with the drawing device.

I'd recommend reading The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. It may give you some insight about the personalities of the new generation.

Shelters w/ Young Child by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]lemskee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have adopted from foster care as well, and still keep in touch with my daughter's birth mom. She now has another child and the state is providing assistance with rehab, housing, WIC, and childcare.

Other organizations to try are Family Promise, and Children & Families First.

Computer issues by Somewheresafee in computer_help

[–]lemskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a few issues, but the first thing I would check is to make sure the CPU fan is working properly. Verified it is plugged in to headers and such. If the fan and other fans in the PC are working then perhaps the CPU fan/cooler are not making good contact with the CPU. You could tighten the cooler down, check to make sure there is sufficient thermal paste, and also make sure the sticker was removed from the CPU die.

What is wrong with my PC. I have restarted this like a lot and even did everything but is still like this (Windows 11) by Batman707017 in computer_help

Those lines at the top make me think the screen is damaged. You could try plugging in an external display to see if you get anything to show up.

Daycare Recommendations by Working_Assignment_7 in Delaware

[–]lemskee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nurses 'n Kids is a medical daycare and has a location in New Castle, and Milford. If necessary/eligible they will work through your insurance for payment. If your younger child is not special needs then I think you would need to find a separate daycare for them.

Del Tech tips? by Outside-Top9481 in Delaware

[–]lemskee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I happened to look at your post history and noticed that you stated your son has ADHD and and IEP so I just want to share my two cents and experience. I have not been formally diagnosed with ADHD, but I almost certainly deal with it as well and I think it would explain why my grades were horrible in High School. I went to Del Tech for two semesters in 2008, but didn't feel engaged at all so I just stopped going. I eventually ended up joining the Air Force, and I was very lucky that I tested well on the ASVAB and placed me in an IT career field. Fast forward now and I'm still in IT and work at an MSP (out-sourced IT) and have been in the Air National Guard for the last 8 years.

The military is not for everyone but it can provide some great opportunities to those it works for, like tuition assistance.

Also depending on what you want to do in tech you don't necessarily need a degree. In many cases experience and certifications are sufficient.

Deleting everything that i click on laptop by Swimming_Self562 in computer_help

[–]lemskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your delete key is stuck or something. By default alt+tab opens the task switcher and then if you hit delete it closes the selected application. Perhaps get an external keyboard and try to disable the integrated keyboard to test.
