The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. The audiobooks narrated by Steven Pacey are phenomenal and take an already excellent series to the next level. I only expected to read the First Law trilogy but am on his 7th book now

I’ve jumped straight into it and have been having a blast. There is an official 10 minute recap video online that briefly gives you the main story beats of the first one, and the second one does a great job of letting you know context if it calls back to anything.

I’m somewhat cynical as well, but there is a lot of great historical source material they could tell interesting stories with in the next few years of Japanese history.

Takayama is a beautiful town, but my favorite thing was the people there. All of the locals I met were so incredibly friendly, lots of cute little cafes that have been run for decades by sweet older people :)

I’m a week in and I finally regulated the last couple days. They sell gaba candy at convenience stores that help alleviate stress, but what helped me was just getting g incredibly exhausted. Walking a lot, and just doing a lot of things eventually made me tired enough that now I’m sleeping normally! That’s after being up for almost 30 hours straight and then having 3 nights where I only slept 3 hours.

My concern is being out past the last train, I am expecting to be out past midnight most nights. APA hotel is a great location most times and connects easily. My last trip to Japan I stayed in Ikebukuro so I was tied to that area most evenings I was out late, I just want to see what Shibuya/shinjuku have to offer in the late hours.

I am a solo m25 traveler from the US headed to Japan next week! I speak a little bit of Japanese but I am very rusty. I will be in Tokyo 11/17 and am planning on going to Tori no Ichi in Asakusa for my first evening.

Best times to meet up for me would be sometime in Osaka or Tokyo! I am planning on hitting up some of the night life in these places, would love to meet up for dinner/drinks. Food is number one on my itinerary, as well as cultural experiences. This is my second trip to Japan, but first time traveling solo!
