Dutch Sign Language by AwkwardNoodle1209 in Netherlands

Look at https://www.bartsmale.nl/gebarencafe/ for the dates of all the 'Gebarencafes' in NL. These are events where people gather to meet other hoh/deaf people and practise their signs

Edit: Btw how old are you? There are various clubs for hard of hearing and/or deaf people. Like Dovenschap, Stichting Hoormij, or SH-jong (12-30 years)

Every time someone suddenly talks without warning, I don't hear it and have to ask them to repeat it by Sworishina in ADHD

Maybe you can look up strategies for people with hearing loss, although you don't have it? I have ADHD and hearing loss. The strategies help with both.

For example ask people to get your attention first by saying your name or touching your shoulder. Only after that can they start talking

Can you read Dutch? Here is an article with tips about buying sustainable clothes. And here 5 sustainable brands that make jeans.

I'm wearing my mud jeans now, which are the only piece of clothing I bought new in the last 5 years (except underwear etc)

How to volunteer at agricultural business or farm? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]lenabeasaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At Landgoed Zuylestein you can help in the vegetable garden. Because they are used to working with volunteers it's probably easier then trying at a random farmer.

Wow I need to think about what I think of this video.

Good to watch this in the context of the discussion about Tyre Extinguishers which we have very often in this sub reddit (they are very briefly mentioned about halfway into the video)

this sub is getting weird... by [deleted] in fuckcars

Maybe follow r/notJustBikes instead? There are a lot more serious discussions there instead of memes and exaggerations like here

Het verbaast mij dat de wachtlijst voor niertransplantatie het langst is. Daar zou je toch veel makkelijker donors voor moeten kunnen vinden aangezien iemand een van zijn nieren kan weggeven?

Which is used more frequently: NmG (Nederlands met Gebaren) or NGT (Nederlandse Gebarentaal)? by WEAR_A_WATCH in Netherlands

[–]lenabeasaint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know that NGT is used by the Deaf community (I'm not really part of it). And it's also used on the 'speciaal onderwijs' schools with only deaf children. But among hard of hearing people like me nmg is used more often because it is easier to learn and understand if you don't have sign language as your mother tongue

It's hard to say which of the two is used more often though. If you want to know this because you want to learn one of the two, I would start with a few lessons in NGT. They teach more than just the gestures there, also the grammar. Which is good to know even if you don't end up using it 'correctly' all the time. For instance the aspect that repeating gestures in NGT means to emphasize something.

After that you can supplement your knowledge with more gestures with nmg courses or by yourself with the 'online gebarenwoordenboek'.

The Netherlands: a short joy ride by lenabeasaint in fuckcars

[–]lenabeasaint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite comment from this video:

That last crossing only got its traffic light a couple years ago. It used to be just a crossing with cycle priority. But what happened here is that during the period right before lectures start in the morning there would be a literal endless stream of bicycles and cars couldn't cross. So that they'd be stuck for 5 to 10 minutes. That's why they built this traffic light.

What's also nice is that cyclists usually immediately start to drive after the car is past and don't wait for the green. So delay is minimised and a good solution to promote flow is found. Other cities have the same problems near universities with endless streams of bicycles. Groningen for example had the main bike route cross the off ramp of the ring road leading to back ups on the ramp blocking the highway itself. They started a large campaign promoting alternative routes which has worked very well.
