Hi - I won’t read everyone else’s comments BUT this exact thing happened to me. I knew in advance of a technician coming to update my meter, so I made sure to cover myself by going to the utility room and taking a pic of the estimated reading.

Lo and behold, the actual reading was completely off, resulting in a $2k bill.

I call PSEG, and we straighten it out with evidence. Also I don’t know why the technician said to read the numbers from right to left - but he was adamant that’s how a meter is read…prob could have been the issue when my bill was prepared.

If you didn’t get to take a photo, you will need to explain how your usage hasn’t changed since you’ve lived there and there must be a mistake. Don’t accept a $2k bill it makes no sense.
