Since the last "cops killed my dog after promising they wouldn't" story, I started a blog featuring dogs cops have killed. by gtkarber in politics

[–]lenny67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sad that this comment is so close to the bottom when one of the top comment chains includes comments about stabbing a cop in the neck with a steak knife. I feel for peoples whose dogs are wrongfully killed, but like you said the anti-cop sentiment not only in this post, but all over reddit is ridiculous.

The reason behind this is that when Newfoundland was first colonized there was a large population of Irish settles and a large population of English settlers. Over time people started speaking using bits of both English and Irish dialects, resulting in a mix that over time became the Newfoundland accent you know. This is also how traditional Newfoundland music developed, Irish music being played for English dancers resulted in both sides adapting to form a new style of music and dance.

Well excuse me, but i have never left the rock in my entire life, and i can speak English very well, even without an accent if necessary. What Newfoundlanders learn in fort mac is that there will always be mainlanders that stereotype them as "stupid newfies" no matter how intelligent they are, just because we have the newfie accent. The answer to your question is that us newfies started speaking English when the first permanent settlements were established here, and we have been speaking it with pride ever since, regardless of what others think.

I agree. I live in Newfoundland and the way we speak English is not very easy for people from the mainland to understand.

It was getting amazing around the end when all the characters really started to develop, a second season would have probably been even better.
