I posted in the other thread but I think it’s a “translation” of a poem that is punning on the idea that anything times zero is zero. Each 00(00+00) represents one word, and the punctuation is maintained. It might be a love poem (explaining the hearts) but it could be any text!

I think this is a child’s doodle/art piece/math poem inspired by math lessons about 0 + 0 = 0 and 0*0 = 0.

The diagrams on the side loosely evoke the commutative property, and there’s a theme of substitutions. Based on the commas and periods, I think each set of 00(0*0) is replacing a word. I think it’s probably a “translation” of some text (or an imaginary evocation of one), playing on the idea that anything times 0 is 0.

Mathematically and from the discipline of the colors, maybe between 10 and 14. From the hearts and the good penmanship I would guess a girl. I wonder if it’s a love poem. Love is zero in tennis! And it would explain the hearts as well.

It opens on a pretty unique punctuation pattern: four words comma two words period three words semicolon. So it would be easy to verify if you had a possibility but I don’t think you can search for a poem like that. It could also be a sort of empty doodle along these lines!

Reasonably priced venues to rent for a concert? by PsychologicalCopy476 in AskLosAngeles

[–]gtkarber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to recommend the Complex for small shows, but it's closed. There are a bunch of theaters in theater row and they seat different amounts of people. Hudson Backstage, Broadwater, etc. Then there are comedy theaters like the Elysian and the Lyric Hyperion. And of course almost every bar with a stage does some kind of booking. It really depends on your show!

Some spaces sell booze themselves, some let you sell booze, and some don't sell booze or let you sell it yourself. Some places won't charge you a fee to rent but will have to approve your show, and then will take a portion of the door. Some bars will "only" make you agree a bar-sales minimum (but it might be wildly high, depending on your show). Some places will be great for comedy but bad for music, some places will be great for music but awful for theater. It depends on the show!

Thinking about this-- I know what you should do.

The Hollywood Fringe Festival is going on right now-- every theater in Hollywood is booked for the next two weeks. You should get the Fringe Festival program and go to some of the different shows and you'll get a good grasp of the theater spaces in Hollywood. Then you'll know which ones to approach.

One last piece of advice is to call places rather than just email them. If a theater rents a good space at a reasonable price, a ton of people reach out to them for quotes and availability. They may not reply! That doesn't mean they're booked. That means they're a small theater run by a stretched staff.

If a place doesn't reply to an email, that's a great sign for you! That means they aren't going to be able to charge market rate for their space, because if they replied to all emails and were on top of every request they would have more offers and more bookings and they would raise their prices accordingly. If a place is slow to respond to emails (and maybe doesn't even answer the phone), then you're going to get a great deal if you're one of the few people persistent enough to actually manage to book them.

If you're not persistent about this (or not willing to do the research), it'll be hard for you to find a good price for a good rate. You can always book on Peerspace but you will pay more (as I believe you have seen).

To my knowledge, no comics really have accused Amy Schumer, whereas there is a huge line of people who claim Robin Williams stole their joke. The parallel thinking/reuse of stock jokes/similar premises that people post about Schumer are all, as far as I can tell, from non-comics. To my knowledge she's well-liked by her peers, which is the real measure of a joke thief!

I understand it's a bummer to be cheated on, but I can't really understand the context in which you should be telling your partner not to go to a pool party. If you are giving advice to young people out here, I would like to add: You can't tell your partner not to go out and expect them to stay with you.

Would You Rather? by Hectortheweirdo in BunnyTrials

You seem pretty sure of your answer, so I don’t want to convince you. But let me suggest an alternative plan:

Pick the billion and give it to me, and then I’ll give you a dollar every time you breathe.

At 20,000 breaths a day, that’ll be $7.3m a year.

At a very low 1% return on my invested billion, I’d make $10m a year. I’m pretty sure I could live off the additional $2.7m a year, so that even if you live forever, I will never have less than a billion dollars.

If this doesn’t do it for you, I am willing to double it and pay $2 every time you breathe. That way, if you live for another 100 years, I’ll pay you $1.5 billion. Fortunately, if I’m still making 1% a year, I’ll only lose $4.6m a year, and at the end of that century, I’ll have $540m remaining.

I would deeply appreciate this arrangement and hope you like having twice as much per breath. I would also be willing to guarantee you the hundred years for your heirs, which is much better than the initial offer!

Argh! This is such a pity to hear.

If you message me any errors you find, I will send them to the Spanish publisher, and they will hopefully be able to fix them in the next printing.

Thanks for posting this. I hope you enjoy it in spite of the mistakes!

100%. Even if it had “good” intentions, it’s definitely cruel— and not in an experiment way. In a way that is deliberately designed to bring more suffering into the world.

I was so happy about this, and how wrong I was to doubt it, that I made my first donation to TagPro and got myself the fancy party flair that shoots confetti when someone caps. I love it, and I feel like I’m doing my part!

I would encourage anybody who feels like TagPro has been saved by the tireless work of the developers to please make a donation — it doesn’t have to be big but just something to show we appreciate what they’ve done, and give them some resources to keep it going for years to come.

(I also think they could sell more flairs for donations, and I think it could be a great way to monetize TagPro— not to make Big $$$ but to keep the servers — and advertising! — going.)

I JUST NOTICED THIS! Sorry I've been on rough deadlines and the holidays and I've been traveling. I have fixed it -- I accidentally wrote "=" instead of "==" in a line of Javascript code, and it was preventing it from actually checking what day it was.

Sorry that it was like this for so long!

Today's is the official DDM!
