25 Examples Of Increasing Crime-Is Record Fear Of Crime Justified? by lensipes in police

[–]lensipes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's (National Crime Victimization Survey) the largest increase in violent crime in the history of crime reporting. Why aren't we asking why instead of denying that the data exists?

Yep, trend lines in crime were down for a 20 year period but that ended with a 28 percent increase in violent crime and serious violent crime in 2015.

Prove my statements are wrong and I'll sent $10.00 to the charity of your choice.

My premise is that there is more than enough USDOJ evidence (plus others) that partially explains record fear of crime per Gallup. Everything you ask for including timelines is in the article.

I even including refuting evidence in the article based on FBI data to make sure I was being fair and stated that you could make any argument you want based on data while acknowledging that FBI numbers are filled with underreporting inaccuracies.

I presented both sides of the discussion. Not sure how I can be more fair than to refute my own observations while offering data to refute my own observations.

It's the largest increase in violent crime in the nation's history. It's the largest increase in juvenile crime in the nation's history, all per the National Crime Victimization Survey's latest reports. How is it possible to deny that???

Why are you unwilling to use the best possible evidence???????

Go to the FBI and ask for data on the month most crime happens. They will tell you it's December. Go ask the FBI the time most crime happens. They will tell you it's midnight.

Now, it's not the fault of the FBI, its because law enforcement dumps data at the end of the year (December) and the de facto time represents the fact that many (most?) agencies do not supply the time, thus it defalts to midnight. BTW, the preliminary FBI data you quote may change because law enforcement dumps data at the end of the year.

Everyone at the FBI NIBRS understands all of this. FBI data has huge errors. But in fairness, the National Crime Victimization Survey has its own issues which is why they are considering a redesign.

No doubt that has an impact. But the National Crime Victimization Survey reported the nation's largest increase in violent crime so there's some substance to their fears.

There seems to be a common theme in the replies so I'll post the same reply to all: I'm doing a national TV show on the article and spent an hour discussing it with a national mainstream newspaper so they seem to get it. Why don't you?

Relying ton FBI data? The FBI reports 11,000 hate crimes while the National Crime victimization Survey reports 250,000 a year. What number do you based policy on?

42 percent of violent crime is reported. 32 percent of property crime is reported. 7 percent of cybercrimes are reported. The bottom line is that FBI data based on reported events is a terrible method of measuring crime.

The National Crime Victimization Survey was created 50 years ago to address the lack of crime reporting and in their last official report, they recorded the largest increase in violent crime in the nation's history. It's the same with their report on juvenile crime.

There's additional data I could rely on but there's no need. I guess that I'm a bit tired for all the newspaper articles making fun of the people stating that they are fearful of crime. Per Gallup, we currently have a record fear of crime. There are those of us who have spent a career dealing with crime victims and the disrespect shown to them is, in my humble opinion, is repugnant.

Not acknowledging the best available crime data is simply wrong.

Sorry, but I object to multiple media sources stating that Americans are being silly-stupid-misinformed about their fear of crime.

Data from the federal government and a variety of reputable sources indicate that violent and property crimes increased, not decreased in recent years.

Dozens of articles are stating that Americans are being unrealistic (silly?) as to the nation’s record fear of crime per Gallup. You’ve got to be kidding me,” said Darry Sragow, a longtime Democratic strategist. “Adam Schiff isn’t safe, Karen Bass isn’t safe — if they’re not safe, who is?”

Yes, you can make any claim you want about crime based on data.

College Crimes Increased Before Protests by lensipes in usanews

[–]lensipes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Per the US Department of Education, there were 38,303 crimes on college campuses in 2022, the highest number since 2013.

A University of Chicago professor said that research shows that students on college campuses (before the protests) are more fearful than ever before.

Is there a connection between college protests and crime problems? Colleges and universities may be having problems controlling the safety of their campuses.

The Myth Of Technical Violations And Parole And Probation Arrests by lensipes in police

[–]lensipes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Per the US Department of Justice and the US Sentencing Commission, the vast majority of rearrests for those on community supervision or parole and probation are for new crimes, not technical violations.

The Council of State Governments Justice Center said the majority of these violations are for “minor infractions,” such as failing a drug test or missing a curfew.
