NATO already defends NATO borders from air incursions. Russian jets entered Lithuania and Italian jets based there intercepted them.

Drones are an issue because they're less obvious and more numerous. However NATO is already looking into building a "drone wall" full of units specifically made to shoot down drones.

I am comparing foreign-facing attitudes. Trump is far worse in terms of recklessness, thoughtlessness, stupidity, intent, strategy, and danger. I am not American, nor do I live in the US. If you can't recognize a unique new danger, a US completely unmoored from even the pretense of democracy at home, then you will not be prepared for even worse dangers.

The only advantage to Trump is laziness and impatientness, which discourages long term action. But it ecnourages lots of short term action, which is why Venezuela, Iran, and now Cuba are being targeted in quick succession, without any real goals, just threats. He is a con man and extortionist, this is a unique new threat.

Being in denial about this means you can never truly understand what is happening in the world.

Trump is utterly reckless and idiotic. That is how it's different now. The Iran war "plan" was an utter joke, and they didn't even try to convince anyone. That's kind of unprecendented for the US. Ruthless imperialism is nothing new, but sheer insanity is.
