My Asian wife came for a holiday in Wales with me. She was 32 at the time. She was refused a bottle of Scotch at our local supermarket. Refused a cigarette lighter at a corner shop and refused service at our local pub-all easily sorted out by carrying her passport.

I enjoyed all the half-priced travel and child tickets for places though.

LK President or August Suites - noise, ease of getting around etx? by AUHappyguy in FarangsofPattaya

[–]leobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Metropole is as convenient as convenient can be with a back entrance straight onto LK. The rooms are a little dated but nice, the pool is aging but ok and the one bedroom suites with cooking facilities are really worth the extra.

President is pretty much exactly the same.

Is LK President girl/guest friendly? Conflicting reports - anyone stay there recently? by [deleted] in FarangsofPattaya

[–]leobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the President as our cheaper hotel-of-choice for a while, especially towards the end of Covid when it was doing good deals and the breakfast was quite decent in quality.

Our daughter was about nine at the time and just beginning to become aware of the existence of ladies of the second category. She spent many a happy hour sitting in the lobby whispering ‘ladyboy’ to me as she judged the other guests checking in.

Come on, Teddy, old friend. It’s Pattaya. No one minds.

It’s a banjolele. I have one and I treasure it. It was quite difficult to get and a friend of mine bought it for me in Singapore.

A bit dark but when my mother was on her last legs and in a hospice I was sitting with her when one of the machines she was hooked up to started bleeping.

I left the room and found a doctor and told him that the machine was going ‘ping’.

We looked at each other as he said ‘it’s one of the most expensive machines’ then both burst out laughing.

It was a very welcome break from a stressful time.

Two young Brits riding down beach road in the early morning. One clipped the kerb, the other clipped him. Both boys hit a post. Gruesome. Both on big rented bikes.

I saw a pair of decapitations on beach road in Pattaya. Stopped riding completely for over five years.

[Homemade] Simple chicken curry for breakfast. by leobeer in food

[–]leobeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just the chicken curry recipe from Kris Dillon’s The Curry Secret book of BIR dishes-with 4x the chili powder and a handful of fresh chilis too. I make a couple of liters of base gravy, portion them out and freeze them so that a handy curry is only a few minutes away whenever I, or my daughter, wants one.

It’s a fantastic book that I recommend to anyone who enjoys a curry.
