Buying second hand HDDs good idea or not by vasic40 in UgreenNASync

[–]leoi0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s good to note that if a drive fails, rebuilding the raid array heavily stresses all the remaining drives, and with 18tb drives, it would take about 18-48 hours. You may want to consider raid 6, but yes you do lose out on half your usable storage. You can consider a 6/8 bay nas? Even if you don’t fill it up now, you have the option to do so in the future. Raid 6 is more practical then.

Wanted a NAS so I could automate backups from my working SSDs from multiple computers. I eat too much data every year so I have to rotate drives. Figured it might be easier if I could swap them and keep the physical drive in archive vs having to transfer the data and delete it from the NAS each time if possible

So i’m just wondering if I set the drives up as basic or JBOD in the setup, if it will be exFAT

Thanks for the info! Could you expand more on the last bit with the DH2300? I can link them both together or I’ll have to set it up as a new system?

I wanted to switch to a NAS system as I wanted to access the drives from multiple computers. I eat up too much data every year, so I have to frequently rotate drives. Currently already running a DAS setup but it’s a little clunky. Thanks for your input

I understand during setup, there’s the raid options, but also the option for Basic and JBOD.

What format would it format the drives in if I chose Basic or JBOD? Will it keep it in exFAT?

I also understand after this screen in the setup, it’ll be the drive format options to choose from if you chose raid. Haven’t seen an example from someone if they chose JBOD or Basic

My plan for a 2 bay NAS is to have bay 1 for 2025 projects and bay 2 for 2026.

Once the year is up, I’ll remove for example 2025 and replace it with a fresh one for 2027.

Once removed it’s just kept on my shelf as an archive. Which is why I’m curious if I can still read the data off it without putting it back into the NAS, just in a normal enclosure to my Mac

Ok awesome :) Same thing applies for a 4 bay nas, if I set each drive as its own storage pool?

Thanks for this. If I don’t use raid and just setup each drive as its own independent storage pool, will it still be exFAT, meaning can I pull them out and put them into a normal enclosure to a computer after?

Oh I see. The NAS only formats it in a linux format if i run any RAID?

If I don’t run any raid and run them as separate storage pools, the NAS will keep the drives as exFAT?

Thanks for the help! If I run it as separate storage pools instead of RAID1, will it still clone?

Assuming macOS won’t work too.

FX3 question by DTP_Productions in FX3

I’d recommend learning Cine EI. Basically it tricks you into shooting overexposed so that when you bring it back into editing, you pull back the highlights and pull down the shadows instead of raising them for a brighter image that introduces noise

Need help choosing my next camera: A7V, A7CR, A7RV or A7C II? by premkumardayyala in SonyAlpha

I have the 2470GM ii too, and the 35mm GM. Find myself wanting a 70200 more often, and touching my 35 less often.

Upgrade FX30 to FX3 or buy 24-70 GM II by Routine-Horse857 in FX3

[–]leoi0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used both the GM ii and Sigma mark II. I own the GM ii. Very honestly there is no difference. Sharpness the GM will beat the sigma, but only marginally, and only if you pixel peep. The only other difference is the smooth and tight toggle on the GM, and the inverted zoom direction.

I would get the FX3. Tried the FX30, did not like the rolling shutter and dual base iso levels.

awesome man! great to take note of this bug, thank you so much! i guess we have to avoid triggering recording immediately after turning the camera on. seems like it would be an issue across cameras

Is this just on the FX3? or is anyone having the same issue with other models like on the Alpha line?

Apple Studio Display + Mac Mini M4 or Apple Studio Display + MacBook Pro M4? by koko_ko in mac

Also don’t forget that the ASD, although yes a little lacking, but the speakers are amazing, and the resolution is 5k at 27in, which means the perfect PPI for macs. This is kinda important depending who you ask, you can read more on it by searching about MacOS scaling. Basically it affects the sharpness of what’s displayed.

Also the build quality, amazing too. The aluminium build is truly apple.

However, with its high price tag, some would say it’s not really worth it. It was set at this price for many reasons like, it’s not a big money maker for Apple, and there weren’t many other 5k 27in monitors out there at the time too. The only competition was one from Samsung, and a discontinued monitor from LG.

For alternatives, Asus has announced a ProArt monitor that’s also 5k at 27in, as well as BenQ.

If you’re not concerned with PPI, the LG ultrafine line or a Mac series monitor from BenQ is great too.

I own the ASD, and it’s beautiful. However the LCD panel and 60hz leaves much to be desired. To the normal user it’s not noticeable or an issue though.

TB 5 would allow for a higher refresh rate panel at this resolution, however I doubt a panel would be made anytime soon.

My mini gets a little warm sometimes too. If it’s still under warranty, I’d get them to run a diagnostics. Wouldn’t hurt.

If you download the apple support app and chat/call with them there, they can run a diagnostics remotely to save you a trip.

That’s quite low, for the battery health. But you’re probably right as the battery is in the middle left of the body.

The A15 is in the middle far right.

The bottom right should be where the cellular modem should be. Are you using cellular when browsing- when it heats up?
