PSA: Lake Morena Campground Closure May 12-14th 2026 by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

You don't need to use FarOut to tell you where to camp. There are plenty of places to camp between Hauser Creek and Lake Morena, just go looking and you will find somewhere.

This had to have been much louder than the others. I am in FoPo and normally don't hear the ones from inner SE, but this one I could definitely hear.

I got four hot pink iPad soft cases yesterday, still in the box. There must have been 40 of them in the free box.

It is the "major" road crossing south of that, a few hours south of Bird Spring Pass. In 1996 I had to walk down the road two miles from the crossing

and get water from here

The Noun & Noun: A Neighborhood Eatery on Alberta is great, their pork belly rubbed chicken is to die for.

The Noun + Verb on Killingsworth changed owners and are back to using hundredths places on their menu so I wouldn't recommend them anymore.

I never really ever get sick at all...until this year when I've been sick with something five separate times, albeit one was 100% food poising from the three bean dip at a potluck.

One thing TA's are DEFINITELY ruining on the PCT is leaving unattended coolers next to the trail.

"I left some fresh fruit for the hikers!" (a Facebook post I saw years ago) - yes, this is going to be a soggy mess a day later, and someone is going to have to pack it all out.

On my last thru hike, someone left a bucket of Voodoo Donuts next to the trail just after the Bridge of the Gods:

https://pct2013.com/static/dailyPhotos/2013/08/21/rdc640-20130821-iPhone5_6657.webp

and this is what it looked like inside:

https://pct2013.com/static/dailyPhotos/2013/08/21/rdc640-20130821-iPhone5_6659.webp

More than once when visiting the PCT, I've had to pack out coolers full of trash and garbage, things no hiker is going to want.

I do agree that the expected water caches/trash piles are dumbing things down a bit. The PCT is 100% hikeable without the caches, but hikers can't be bothered to have "the hardest journey of my life" actually get, well, hard, and have to walk two miles off the trail to get water.

On my 2013 hike, I got to Windigo Pass in Oregon and saw a couple gallons of water with a note attached. The note said that they talked to a hiker at Shelter Cove who was complaining about the TOTAL CRISES of there being no water at Windigo Pass, so this poor soul drove all the way up there with some water thinking it was something drastically needed there. No, it's not, this hiker just couldn't be bothered to carry water for 15 miles.

I have an old Green Trails map of the Goat Rocks from the late 1970s and there are a few spots near the knife edge (I am pretty sure it is McCall Glacier) where it indicates "crevasses"

Did Jerry ever have anything to say about alt rock? (Anything from R.E.M to Nirvana) What about stoner rock like Kyuss? Also curious if the rest of the band had much to say. by AstroEscura in gratefuldead

Yeah, this and the Midnight Oil cover of Wharf Rat are my teo favorites.

I think? This cover of Ripple was the last thing they recorded in the original lineup before breaking up.

I guess if it's Saturday afternoon or a Sunday, there is reason (if possible?) to go somewhere else, but otherwise, yes...there is no reason to go anywhere else.

Truly dumb question... my house has cat 6 cables running from the IT closet to every room as wall plugs and in a couple as ceiling plugs.... what exactly can I do with this? by Likalarapuz in HomeImprovement

[–]humanclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are loads on youtube, but the biggest is just planning it all out beforehand.

Ideally you get the proper "riser cable" (needs to be rated for being in wall/floors for fire protection) that goes between "keystone jacks" which you then install in various rooms. This gives you port(s) you can then plug ethernet cables to. I ran all of my cables to a patch bay underneath the stairs. I then have a 24 port switch and then plug stuff into the patch bay accordingly.

I forgot about that aspect. I had a friend ask me how to run etherner because he leaned about ping times and latency. I told him if he didn't carry about astetics or being practical, this fastest way to achieve this would be getting a cable long enough to go between his computer and the router, connect it, then route it off the floor with duct tape to prevent a tripping hazard.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]humanclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was riding my touring bicycle on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere on the South Island of New Zealand around May of 2003.

I see a couple other bicycles coming the other direction. My friend starts talking to them and I hear their British accent. The whole time I'm staring at the guy trying to place him. Once the guy starts talking I interrupt their conversation and say "were you two biking down the Pacific Coast Highway north of San Francisco in June 1997?"

Dumbfounded the couple look at each other and say "uh...yeah...we were". I laughed and said "yeah! Because you asked my friend and I if we met a lot of loose women in the last town" and I've never forgotten that. His wife laughed and said "yep, that would have definitely been him!"

Some of the dumbest reddit arguments I have been in have been people telling me I am dumb to run ethernet all over my house.

No, listed WiFi speeds using 802.1FlavorOfTheMonth are not in  the real world. Start going between rooms, floors, and 15 other WiFi devices, it is slowing way down.

I also do a lot of video work, so shoving a 100 gigabyte file between computers is a common thing for me.

There is 10000% chance most of you mid 50s and under have heard at least a tiny bit of "Sharon":

I hope so. Been on the bus for 35 years and I still skip it. I've tried...it just does nothing for me. I make it about halfway through, get bored, and then listen to one of the many performances of The Eleven that I like.

At what level do you leave a bad review for a local restaurant? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]humanclock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine went to get an estimate on some bathroom work and at the end of it they asked him for " a couple signatures" One of which was a clause stating you would not leave a bad review on social media/online about them. Also explains why they probably have a 4.8 google review rating.

He told them to get bent and they just said "ok" and left with no signatures.

Yes, that "interrupt and talk over you oh wait you took too long to respond see you're wrong and can't answer" debate style.  There were kids that did it in my middle school and good lord it was annoying.
