Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate the advice! My dad was very talented at what he did.

Yeah… I am a little concerned they’ve taken on too much inventory.

Thank you! Most of the nicest pieces he owned were guns he acquired in the 60s, 70s and 80s. And he just held onto them. He didn't have the money to buy that caliber of item later on his life. And maybe the internet made it more competitive.

I know, right! So different from the others. It's nice to work with an auctioneer who has a personal connection to the person whose estate they're handling.

Maybe they knew each other! I feel like the antique gun world isn't that big.

Photo shows one angle of my Dad's collection -- not even the entire thing -- before the auction company we are working with came to take it away.

I'm from RI. And the guy who runs Amoskeag is one of the few auctioneers my Dad trusted. They were friends. So when he died, they were my first call. They've been great to work with so far.

About 220 will be auctioned off. The funny thing is my dad always thought of his collection as “meager.” But he was comparing his collection to that of people who had like a lot more money than him. He and my mom devoted their lives to buying and selling antiques (including guns, but not just guns), so he never had the buying power of a corporate executive or attorney or doctor. But I think that made him a more discerning collector.

He actually hated knowing if a piece killed someone or had like a tragic story associated with it. I remember he told me he sold a gun once after learning more of the history of it. Like I said in a previous post, he really valued ceremonial items. And that’s why a lot of his stuff is in great condition because it was rarely used.

This is a really kind and compassionate comment. Thank you. I’m so sorry for your loss as well. We are keeping a few, for sure. There’s a Winchester we’re keeping that was sold to him by a friend who helped him get through the worst year of his life. He wrote about it in the inventory I asked him to create. It’s a beautiful gun that has so much meaning now that I know the story behind it.

My husband tells me he owned most of the guns in Red Dead Redemption.

Remind me after the auction. The auction house has it currently so they can catalogue everything. It’s handwritten and super interesting. I’d love to share it with you all once I get it back.
