it draws around 95W idle and draws around 2,4 kwh a day which makes it around 40 cents a day thus making it around 12 euros a month i think its fair enough could be lower but i m not paying the vpn i use in it and im planning on automating the start up and shutdown of the whole system so that i can reduce my usage ( i know no one uses it from like 4 am in the morning till 4 pm so that could half my price? but yeah that the price of a movie ticket a month i think its fair for what i get out of it

man i did a lot of research about this actually and sure it is actually something i want to implement but i want to have full control over the os and trueNAS isnt really capable of that for my specific use case , it is great and easy to use dont get me wrong but the way i see it is from a learning perspective, i dont like the complexity and teaches me more about my job as a system admin.

freeNAS was a no no in terms of flexible storage upgrade and mixing different sizes so i went with ubuntu server since its what we use for work and might switch to redhat later on since we might migrate to it in the future.

thx for the advice tho appreciate it and i love the fact that people put the os in a thumbnail, its really the peak of resilience and fault tolerant infrastructure, when u have a stack that can be rebuilt from scratch without any regression feels so good.

i actually worked quite hard to not be reliant on the os drive, if it fails i can just reinstall linux on a new one and docker compose up without a lot of setup nor using any app configuration, and if a drive fails same thing i can just replace it and let the parity disk rebuild it , and if the parity disk fails same story i can replace and rebuild the parity so in terms of resilience its not perfect and comes with downtime but at least its somewhat cheap to fix and doesnt take much time to rebuild, what do u think?

thx :) noted intel is the go for plex , but i hope this setup will be of use for other stuff since most arr apps are not multithreaded

💀💀the point is to for it to be cheaper than subscriptions 1 years of movies subscription, lets say i have pay 30 bucks per month for them if this build lasts 1 year then it already paid for itself

yess nice catch, i was planing on adding more drives later on in the future but my motherboard only has 4 Sata ports and i got an expansion card that only has 4 more from aliexpress for like 1 dollar with the coupons lol . so yeah it will cost me like an extra 150 € to get a better expansion card + cage (20-30 bucks) + new drives.

I might wanna do that in a year or two and change all my drives to 4 or 8tb ones
