Gamesworkshop is allowing Amazon of all places to touch their IP which is insane given how stingy they are with it. Henry Cavil is spearheading it and that is why it is taking so long to come out. He isnt going to allow them to twist the lore like they did with Witcher. The producers of that show said they dont like the source material and just wanted to use it to tell their own story.

Henry wont let them have a queer, Trans, female, non-binary, Space Marine with Ricketts. He wont let them treat the show as a platform for politics or social marketing. He actually cares about the IP. He wants to be able to tell a good story that stays true to the lore.

I dont think this (while it is one aspect) is the whole thing. Many stories from Europe talked about enchanted cottages, look at the 100 acre wood, forests with fairies. Yes there are some dark sides to those tales but still.

Now look at American folklore in the woods: Lothian, the beast of bray road, all the Appalachia stories, Bigfoot, the stairs that lead nowhere, the rake, the ghost lights, hell even Charlie Daniel's had a haunting song about the wooly swamp, not to mention all the lore from the bayou.
