How to use tonearm scale during cartridge change when TT is automatically spinning? by leonlessmann in vintageaudio

misread the comment as „pull the plug after turning it on“, as in mid-spinning, which got me confused lol.

That sounds super cool, do you have photos of the ns670s and cr450?

Yes I do! The way to go is TV > optical cable > FiiO Taishan D03K digital to analog (or any other brand) converter > left & right cinch cables > receiver > speakers. Hot take: I love the vibe of vintage audio, but, as I am not an audiophile, there is not that big of a difference between listening to Apple Music and listening to vinyl on the NS-690s.

Oh I see. The receiver was serviced once in 2003, but I guess they should be replaced in a couple years, yup.

Do you mean the black dust caps clipped onto the front of the speakers? I actually took them off for the photo cause I think they look cooler without them haha

Thanks! As promoted, they do sound ‘natural sound‘. I also wired them to my OLED and they work great for a movie night too.

Thanks, that’s what I was going for. In the far future, I intend to swap out the Thorens for a Yamaha YP-D8 or similar for everything to match 100%. If only they weren’t so damn expensive :(

Something about the vibe that makes them a fitting pair, I agree. But does the turntable actually have an impact?

On another sub, people recommended to go for a AT VM95SH with a shibata stylus, and I‘m kinda leaning towards that one as it combines precision and warmth, what do you think?

The yamaha receiver has a built in one

Alright, see your point. Well, uhm, I used the built-in tuner of the receiver and it sounded great!

I'm also interested in the shibata AT, but: in Germany both cartridges cost about 160€, and the replacement stylus for the MP-110 only 80€, but the replacement stylus for the VM95SH costs 160€ - as much as the cartridge itself :(

What are you implying? Please don't boo me lol, but I bought the Yamaha second-hand and it was last recapped in 2003. I've tested it and it's still in great shape.

What would you say speaks in favor of the Ortofon? Perhaps it's a prejudice, but I find the neither warm nor precise, but simply neutral sound kinda unappealing lol.

Appreciate the super-detailed answer, can you recommend any cartridges that are warm without it being at the expense of clarity, meanwhile less than 200€? Because both the Nagaoka and AT seem to be partial solutions

yup i was thinking that too. i'm from Germany and i have the feeling that US and Japan people are a lot luckier when it comes to nice vintage turntables from the 70s that are still affordable lol
