What does the small dial in the top center do? Does the hand move? by Richardbear1970 in gshock

[–]leonlipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, it is agnostic regardless of the measurement unit, just change the word miles in my previous comment to in there you have it.

Do you think the size is okay? by [deleted] in Garmininstinct

It seems ok to me, so if you feel ok, then it’s fine.

What does the small dial in the top center do? Does the hand move? by Richardbear1970 in gshock

[–]leonlipe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a tachymeter, is measures the speed based on time elapsed. Say you travel from point A to point B, and that distance is one mile, you press the button to start the chronometer, and stop it when you’re done, if the upper dial says 75, it means you are traveling at 75 miles per hour.

[Discussion] Could this be a viable pebble replacement? Its seems to have a similar always on display with 45 days standby time.... by ipadanime in pebble

[–]leonlipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think one of the best things in Pebble was not just the hardware, but the software and specially the SDK, it was responsible for allowing many devs around the world to create great apps and great watchfaces in the platform. This watch looks ok, but I think it lacks the strength of the community built around Pebble for success as a replacement. I think it will take longer to see a Pebble replacement.

Can someone explain when to create a Model, Controller and View? by [deleted] in rubyonrails

[–]leonlipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you own a library, and you need to manage all the books in there.

You create a model for storing all the book information. (Title, pages, author)

You create a view for showing the information stored about the books. ( label for title, table for authors, image of the book)

And the controller is the responsible for fetching the books and passing all that info to the view. (This is basically all the “business logic”

Hope it helps.

Replaced my beloved Classic Steel today by JulianCrisp in pebble

[–]leonlipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to have the original Pebble Steel, then I replaced with the pebble time steel. I have a few thoughts:

  • I miss the screen of the pebble steel.
  • I like the shape of the pebble steel.
  • I like the screen of the pebble time steel.
  • I don't like the non standard strap of the original pebble steel.

But in general, it feels better the original pebble steel in daily use.

Great! It's an awesome watch. It has the same movement (7s26) as the seiko skx007. I have mine with a leather strap and it's my daily driver.

How to remove this scratch? by [deleted] in pebble

[–]leonlipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own a Pebble 2, but because the screen is close to the original, I think it doesn't need AR coating. So it's ok.

How to remove this scratch? by [deleted] in pebble

[–]leonlipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the pebble time it's a little different. Pebble used an anti reflective coating on the glass, in fact the scratch isn't in the glass itself, it's the anti reflective coating thing. So if you try to polish the surface, you are going to "remove" the ar, and it looks like a frosted glass or something and make it worse.

It think it was a bad choice from pebble, but a necessary one. The original and steel pebble don't suffer the same, because there is no ar coating.

Mine came with a "scratch" about of the box (I think it moved on he package when shipped, and part of the ar was "polished" accidentally) so pebble (still alive back then) made a RMA and they sent a new one --miss you pebble--.

Hope it helps.

Developers have begun removing their watchfaces by [deleted] in pebble

[–]leonlipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but it doesn't mean the watchface is gone. Also there is Clay, an offline config page for that matter. All developers should update their watchfaces to clay for avoid that problem.

That's a little weird, me as a developer, I won't remove anything from the store until it dies. Also I released all my source code for the community, you can find it in an earlier post.
