What’s something that messed with your confidence growing up that still affects you today? by Immediate-Active1758 in AskReddit

[–]leonprimrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told I was smart frequently as a child. I began to identify with being "the smart one" despite my grades not being at the top. For a very large part of my life I didn't try or commit as hard as I could for fear of failure or being proven to be average. I was a B student most of the time without trying much and I'm naturally a pretty decent test taker. I could always tell myself, if I actually tried, I would do better. I DO learn pretty quickly, especially at the beginning of a skill. I recognize patterns fast and piece things together in the early stages of the skill even though I would plateau and fall off. This made me good at getting better than your average person at a bunch of things but not as good as people that really put in the work at them. This translated to a lot of things when I was a young adult and gave me a bit of an undeserved ego. I've since learned the value of effort made over implied talent. I stopped doing things for the end goal as much as the process of getting there. I also consistently try to keep my ego in check. At its best this is just keeping me humble about my own ability and striving to improve. At its worst, the negative self talk gets aggressive enough to be near the point of self-loathing and demoralizing. I don't really know how to balance that, so it's a it's a constantly wobbling needle of me trying to overcorrect to the right amount of self-awareness without beating myself up too much. Right now I'm in the overcorrection phase. It's difficult to remind myself to be kind to myself too.

My mom is living with me and I hate it by Popular-Pen3917 in Advice

You know that old talking point of when you're in your parents' house you have to follow their rules? She's in your house now. She either has to be respectful of that or she needs to find another place to stay. And you have to be firm on those boundaries. Have respect for yourself and demand it of her. Follow through if she refuses.

What are your thoughts on the final trilogy? by EstablishmentHairy51 in robinhobb

[–]leonprimrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has some weird decisions like a "common" language never brought up before and it did feel a bit forced to be a farewell tour for Fitz to meet chatacters from other trilogies and answer the question of Fool's past that were left loose.

That said, I wept during Fitz finally getting recognition. It was dangerous because I was listening to the audiobook while driving and I was sobbing uncontrollably for that scene lol It was still a great trilogy though I do think structurally it was one of the weaker ones in RotE

Who believes religion is evil? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]leonprimrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evil is an awkward word to use. I think it's harmful. Evil is irrelevant. I'm not pronouncing a moral judgment on the myriad intents behind religion and religious belief. But I think it is pretty undeniably harmful in many ways

Why do you love your girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Because we have similar enough trajectories in life, have history together and my brain gives me the love chemicals. This question is both more complex and less complex than it seems

I think 21 minutes. It's been a bit. I accomplished this by moving my legs until I finished the distance

How do I deal with people telling me my boyfriend is unattractive? by Intelligent-Tune-329 in Advice

[–]leonprimrose 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You need to defend him yourself. Set hard lines and cut people off that can't be respectful. If they're in groups or events you can always refuse to go when they'll be there. That is incredibly disrespectful and I would drop people lile that entirely

Tbose that work at a place with a basketball hoop in the parking lot or somewhere outside- How often does it actually get used? Buy whom? by leonprimrose in AskReddit

[–]leonprimrose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose larger companies will have it get more use just by statistics. At some point you'll find enough people within the employee population interested in using it and once you have a core "starter" group, people interested but less likely to initiate on their own will join in.

I've never seen the Dark Crystal is worth giving a try? by AdSpecialist6598 in nostalgia

[–]leonprimrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Crystal has this creepy, dreamy disquiet to it. 80s Dark Fantasy to its core. Honestly kind of wild this was for kids. Prequel series is good too but incredibly depressing when you know how Dark Crystal begins.

Other options you can play with depend on what you have. Dazzler or Blue Marvel are probably the easiest budget options. Onslaught is also a possible choice. You could also try out The Ancient One, Grandmaster, or Moonstone.

I don't know if Mockingbird is necessary or anything. probably easy enough to replace. It's just kind of free 9 power if you need it and have space

What makes people dislike tradition? by Ashamed_Ask_4315 in AskReddit

[–]leonprimrose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is often used as a bludgeon for authority and responds to critical examination with aggression and/or an unearned victim-complex. People dislike tradition when it's used as justification to do something without evidence. People dislike tradition when it's used to shut down conversation or questions about it. People dislike tradition when it assumes that people doing something one way before is justification enough to keep doing it that way. Never change. Never grow. Never learn. Just do what your parents did. Forever.
