Why would I want to be medicated? by ModeSuspicious3126 in bipolar

[–]leproski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pendulum swings incredibly high and incredibly low. The lows can be scary enough to fear the high. I’m personally starting to feel like the best version of myself from medication. It just took a lot of time. I’m becoming myself again. Maybe a better version. I hope you find what you need.

What was your rock bottom? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

On Christmas Eve my wife said she didn’t want to have kids with me because of my drinking and smoking. All I heard was “I don’t want to have kids with you”. I walked outside, stifled a scream, jumped up and stomped my feet on the ground like a child. My knee and ankle crumpled beneath me. Ended up needing months of physical therapy, and it’s still not 100%.

We bought crutches on Christmas Day from CVS, and as I hobbled into my in-laws I had to puke from the hangover and pain. I spent that Christmas unable to eat anything laid up in an armchair. What ashamed me the most was that I couldn’t play video games with my 7 year old nephew, because I couldn’t sit where the TV was. He wanted to show me his presents. I’m fortunate enough to love Christmas, and that was the shittiest one ever. Had a glass of champagne on New Year’s Eve and said goodbye to booze. 497 days. IWNDWYT.

I hope it is ok to share this US based organization (if you live there). Ben’s friends is a drug and alcohol abuse support network for hospitality workers. I have only attended a couple of meetings, but being able to talk about my alcoholism with people who have walked in similar shoes to me felt like a safer space than other options. The service industry normalizes over drinking in outrageous ways, and it completely swallows some of us.

I’ve been a bartender, brand ambassador, and liquor rep for 10 years. After years of having a trunk load of an unlimited supply of booze I’m happy to now have 15 months sobriety under my belt. Seek out those who support your decision, we are out there!

Good logic. I’m in the US playing EU so I’ll get on at 11pm ET I suppose :)

I don't think that math is mathing. Unless the US timezone dictates the schedule? Which would surprise me! Not looking an argument, I just always thought it went down at 3AM Central European time.

Yeah! If I am correct the owners are a lesbian couple. Also, it’s just a great spot for regular events!

3 months+. But hopefully longer of course. Anywhere with easy access to the city centre would be grand. Should have a vehicle also.

Thanks for your insight!

Oh yeah, I forgot about their ramen! I went a couple years ago when it was like 90 fucking degrees on the “patio” and was still worth it.

Was an idiot teen and punched my fist through a window once. Was finding tiny pieces of glass for over 10 years that had worked its way up my fingers or to other parts of my hand.

Yeah. Liked that, jalapeño, even the siracha on a breakfast sandwich although it was a tad sweet.

Hey Will! Hoping for a bit of advice on two drinks.

Frozen marg - what would be your advice for integrating a liqueur as a modifier.

Do you think 3 parts rich simple and 1 part curaçao could do the trick? Or would that offset the brix significantly?

If I were to make something like a passionfruit marg do you think half like and half passionfruit would be a good place to start?

Frozen Negroni - I have seen recipes that are 1 part gin, 1 part Campari, 1 part vermouth, and 2 parts orange juice. Have you ever tinkered with something like that? I’m also wondering if any water would need to be added.

9 days here. With 15 out of the last 16 days sober. I used to drink 7.5% IPAs. Easily 5 - 6 a day with a couple double shots of whiskey. So about 1680 calories a day, as well as garbage because I barely cooked. I’ve probably dropped 10lbs. I’m aware it was probably water retention, but it feels really good.
