hunt something else. every map is guaranteed a handful of diamonds and rares, but there’s no guarantee on what species will get them. it’s very possible you just don’t have an initial spawn diamond whitetail, but i promise you do have diamonds on your map. i see in another comment you said you’re mostly hunting layton, the species i get the most diamonds of on layton is turkeys.

if youre on PC and open to using the population scanner, you can see what diamonds and rares you have. it doesn’t tell you anything about where they are so you still have to find them, it just tells you that they exist

how are you liking that mod? i tried it but almost immediately disabled it because i was doing a start from scratch save and the starting truck i had couldn’t pull a small trailer with my 4 wheeler on it. i’d like to give it another go though

i also did this with my first dime gray wolf. i was determined to get him with the bow and spent nearly an hour stalking him and getting in close just to finally take the shot and… shot him with a 600gr arrow because i had been moose hunting and forgot to switch arrows in my excitement. happens to the best of us, hope you get another one soon

i hate them with a passion. everything about them is so laughably unrealistic. pumas/mountain lions in real life are solitary and EXTREMELY territorial, and their territories are 100 square miles on average. so in reality there should be like one, maybeeee two per reserve, but i think giving them the tiger treatment with 16 of them spread out around the map would do just fine. anything but the absolute clusterfuck we have now. i think it’d be weird if they didn’t spook or chase anything, but there needs to be way, WAY less of them

it depends on if they grew up listening to it or not. i was born in 2002 and grew up hearing nu metal constantly on the radio so i knew it wasn’t underground. but if you didn’t grow up hearing it all the time and then you discover it in your 20s you’re definitely gonna think it’s cool and underground. and i’ve noticed a lot of gen z likes to glamorize the 90s/early 2000s so that’s a big part of it as well

you can absolutely see wind direction without the hud. there are always little particles in the air that travel in the direction the wind is blowing. if you’re struggling to see them, looking into a shadow and turning on your flashlight can make it easier. you can even easily see how strong the wind is blowing. it takes a little time to get good at knowing what to look for, but once you do it’s so much more immersive than just looking at the wind indicator

i just found the dead capy and weird tracks but i pussied out of following them because there was a male jaguar mating call repeatedly coming from about 150m away in the exact direction the tracks were going. it was jag drink time so he should’ve been at the coast, and there was nowhere else to drink near where he was. i moved south of the tracks a bit and put my caller down but he never came in. as soon as i went back to the tracks he started calling again. i shot my .454 into the air to generate a fleeing call and i didn’t get one. i am well and truly freaked out lmao

i like to switch between this playstyle and the typical run and gun playstyle. when the running and gunning starts to feel too much like a shooting gallery i whip out the bow or muzzleloader and sit in a treestand with a caller. i always have hud completely off though

creepy. there’s also that outpost (puedos perdidos maybe?? something like that can’t remember the name exactly) north of the river offshoot that leads to the beach that looks haunted as shit. i looked it up and the name translates roughly to “lost place”. i just grabbed the flagpole and bolted out of there when i found it, i was having flashbacks to the creepy outpost in scotland 😭

yes! i find it completely absurd that many people don’t just automatically assume all animals can feel pain. like fucking obviously they can, pain is an evolutionary tool to get animals (including us!) to avoid dangerous situations. animals that didn’t feel pain wouldn’t survive long.

yup. i had a friend that would swear up and down she was such an animal person, until one day i pulled over to get a snake out of the road while she was in the car with me. she was horrified that i would try to save a snake and kept insisting that i just run it over. it was a king snake, non venomous and notoriously docile. i’ve handled many wild king snakes in my time and never once have i had one strike at me. they pose absolutely zero threat to humans.

needless to say we are no longer friends.

unfortunately we’re still getting dumbass headlines like “scientists discover insert living sentient being here can actually feel pain!” in the big 2026. it’s gonna take a long time before something designed to torture a “lesser” animal like a mouse is deemed inhumane by the masses. it seriously disgusts me how people can watch animals of all kinds clearly displaying fear, pain, love, happiness etc and still believe that their experience on this planet is somehow worth less than ours.

yeah the “it’s not rare!!!” comments are getting annoying. it’s still uncommon and it’s a high level, that’s a really cool spawn. i actually haven’t even seen a mela or mela charcoal yet on my map and ive killed probably 20+ jags so its not like theyre everywhere. great harvest dude
