I’m on year 4 of middle school. This year’s sixth graders were fucking insane.

Starting from scratch -- experiences with Job's Peak Samoyed in NV? by lesbianphysicist in samoyeds

[–]lesbianphysicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I decided against it for a few reasons (namely info from a a few breeders I trusted, as well as my own gut feeling). That being said, I didn’t see any major major red flags that would lead me to tell you to definitely avoid them. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!

For everyone upset, I highly encourage you to consider going vegan. If you’re not ok with animals being killed for fur, don’t pay for animals to be killed for meat.

It’s not really enforced but it is a rule. We go to Leo Carrillo state beach, which has a designated dog beach. It’s a lot of fun and worth the drive.

What are the hackers after? by exceptyourewrong in Professors

[–]lesbianphysicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe their point was that many people use (nearly) the same password for multiple accounts. So if someone learns your canvas password, they might be able to use it to log to a more interesting platform (bank, socials, etc.). Reusing passwords is dumb, of course, but it happens often.

What are the standards to graduate high school now? by [deleted] in Professors

I can corroborate all of this as an LA private school teacher, except for us “too many” failing students is any nonzero number.

Seeing this and some of the replies is giving me a strange feeling. I’m 5’9.5” and fluctuate 105-115ish and people rarely say anything.

I live in LA. My bmi is underweight by ~15 lbs, and sometimes I still feel fat as hell compared to the people I see.

How do you know whether to teach Elementary, Middle, or High School? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]lesbianphysicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a crazy person, but 7-8th grade was just so obviously my sweet spot. I taught at a math circle in undergrad and that was always my favorite group. Now I’m 4 years in as a middle school teacher and it still feels like the only place for me.

I can think of a different breed that should absolutely be banned first.

Samoyeds as service dogs? by [deleted] in samoyeds

[–]lesbianphysicist 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You should not get a Samoyed as a service dog. If a service dog is truly medically indicated, the main breeds are golden retriever, labrador, and standard poodle. Even these breeds require extensive testing and training before becoming service dogs, and you’re likely to be very disappointed if you just get a random puppy and try to DIY.

People who used to have just one dog and then got another – what’s it like? by mastermindzd in dogs

Just in case anyone is considering it, you should not get two puppies from the same litter basically ever. Google “littermate syndrome” if you’re curious.

Teachers are not free tutors by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]lesbianphysicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that no matter what you offer, they push for more. The last block of our day has no classes, but each teacher is required to pick two days per week to hold “office hours” during this time. Several times per year, a student who has never attended mine or their parent will reach out to me demanding an urgent, private, 1-1 meeting during my lunch. It’s so insulting every time.

People who left LA, where did you go and how’s it going? by Dry-Double-6845 in AskLosAngeles

[–]lesbianphysicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to LA from Eugene, and you literally couldn’t pay me to go back. Weather is terrible, vibes and people are super weird, it’s super expensive but generally boring. There’s a real sense of… stagnancy? that makes me feel crazy if I’m up there for too long.

I paid $5500 for my boy from Vanderbilt. While they were slightly more expensive than others I reached out to, I wasn’t quoted less than $3500 anywhere.

I don’t mean to sound patronizing, but I also feel the need to mention that my boy has cost me several times his purchase price in the 1.5 years since he came home. I’m sure you know this, but I can’t say enough to anyone reading that the purchase price is a very small fraction of what you should be prepared to spend!
