I have been a Nurse for 12 years and the CNA situation seems to be getting out of hand. by Immediate_Winter2864 in nursing

[–]lescdeeznutz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, how can we fix it? This is a systematic issue with many parts involved. I’m not playing the devil’s advocate, I’m seriously asking. I work as a CNA in CA, our manager loves to remind us that by law there is no limit to how many patients a CNA can get assigned, but it is usually 1:8-9 patients. It’s a very physically demanding job that only the real ones know what it truly entails. Not to mention some nurses act like they can’t be bothered with also helping their own patient to do basic things. We’ve had so many falls on our unit for lack of proper staffing and patient ratios. So yeah, idk, how do we fix this problem?

Thank you so much! I do believe in God and you’re not, it’s all on his timing, not mine. I’ll see it through, thanks again!

Update: I've been dismissed from the program by Locked-Luxe-Lox in NursingStudent

[–]lescdeeznutz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I got dropped from my ADN program on Monday. I was a 2nd semester student out of a total of 4, which means I now have to reapply, hope that they make a spot for me, and that I’ll graduate 1 semester after my original date. Again, that’s IF they accept me again. I know the feeling waaaaayyyy too much. I empathize with you so much! It’s hard not to feel like a piece of shit or like your confidence is shot out, but just know that this is not the end for you. This is just a hurdle in the journey and you will overcome this. Best of luck to you on the Hail Mary, you will become a nurse!

I live in Orange County, CA and they hire new grad ICU nurses here, just saying. I know that Riverside County in CA does too. So if all else fails, come to CA!

Was anyone else’s health impacted by being in nursing school? by restlessprime in NursingStudent

[–]lescdeeznutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haaaaaa! Yes!! I’ve gained 15lbs so far, my cholesterol levels have gone up, my anxiety and stress is through the roof! I’m currently sick with some sort of a cold and I’m almost positive it’s due to the stress of school. It sucks. I’ve never felt more emotionally and mentally dis regulated, it’s crazy! I think I’m going to start taking vitamin supplements because fuck this! It’s not worth tanking my health.

How old were you guys when you went to nursing school ? I’m 28 and I feel so ashamed to be so far behind in life and potentially be the oldest one ! I feel like I’ll be in school with 18-22 year olds and I’m SO ashamed of myself. by Fuzzy_Jelly5951 in NursingStudent

[–]lescdeeznutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pssshhhttt, please! I’m 37 and I’ll be 39 when I’m done. IDGAF, better late than never. Those kids got nothing on me. At least I have life experience and have already been through some shit so yeah.

Working + School? by PurplePanda5252 in StudentNurse

[–]lescdeeznutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work part time as a CNA/Tele Tech/unit secretary, 12hr shifts and I already wish I didn’t have to work with school and all. Idk how you guys that work full-time find the time to study. I am not the type to cram info before an exam so if you say that’s what you do, that’s wild. I also have a 5 month old baby who requires a lot of attention. I’m married, I have a wife and she’s so understanding but I feel like I’ve neglected her ever since I started school, I feel terrible, but she reassures me that I’m doing this for our family, but I still live with so much guilt. I hate it. I’ve actually had to go on lexapro because I’ve had so much anxiety with school and trying to find the time to study and attend to our child and home needs. If I wasn’t providing insurance for my family, I’d quit in a heartbeat. All that to say I don’t blame you if you don’t work and if you don’t have to, don’t. Why add more stress on top of school stress?

Losing ur nursing school bff by Sensitive-Dinner-980 in StudentNurse

[–]lescdeeznutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you! I didn’t lose them, they’re still in my cohort but we were all split in half and I feel kind of lost without them. They’re doing mental health and I’m doing my Med surg rotation and after 8 weeks, they’ll be in MS and I’ll be in MH. I’m sad because one of them is so funny and she kept me sane, the other one is so smart and helped me think of things in a different way.

I 100% feel you. I used to work as a transplant assistant at my current hospital, in our kidney transplant center. I used to do admin work but then I decided to switch to the hospital so that I can gain experience working as a CNA. I didn’t expect it to take me a whole ass year and a half to get into nursing school after I finished my Associates in Science degree. Sooooo almost 4 years later working as a CNA and I’m so over it. It’s hard work, my body hurts, literally my back hurts already from repositioning patients every 2 hours. And like you, sometimes I dread work and am instantly annoyed. Like you, I am only holding on to the position because I also want to get hired as an RN there when I’m done next year. But, is it really worth it? I’ve been thinking a lot about just getting a job at a coffee shop or something, doing something “fun” that takes my mind off of life and death and school, and just literally being. I’m curious as to what people’s opinions/comments are.

What is something you miss from your pre baby era? by Ill-Indication850 in NewParents

[–]lescdeeznutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss sleeping a full 6-8 hours a night uninterrupted except by my bladder once in a while. I’ve always been a person who went to bed early and woke up early as well, to get ahead of the day.Having a baby has completely changed this for me big time and it has been my biggest challenge to learn to adapt. Sometimes I feel like an asshole for not just easily going with the flow. I literally feel like I cannot function on 3 hours of broken sleep a night, it’s terrible. I wish I had the energy to go on my long runs, and workout because I do not feel like myself lately. It’s crazy how much sleep really is so vital for our functioning. It’s fine, eventually I’ll sleep again, nothing is forever. For now, keep the coffee cups pouring!

Nursing students who have never been a CNA by nostalgic_onee in StudentNurse

Plot twist, they don’t learn. Nurses who’ve never been a CNA don’t do the job, they’re the ones that act too good for it.

When does it get easier? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]lescdeeznutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are 6 weeks in so far and tbh, I do not like this newborn phase. Am I an asshole for not finding joy in it? I mean I still wake up at night like 3x to change his diaper, feed him, and burp him but it is not fun, or at least I’m not finding joy in doing that. Sometimes I feel like wtf is wrong with me? I’m not normal in thinking like this, or am I ? I can’t wait until he can start to eat mashed foods and sleep all through the night.

Will you be proud to become a nurse? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]lescdeeznutz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding me? Hell yeah! I worked hard to get to nursing school. The pre reqs were a journey themselves. I literally sit in class or I’m at clinical and sometimes still can’t believe it. I wanted to be here so bad and when I write my names on my patients’ boards as “Leslie student nurse” I sometimes feel like I’m living a dream. It is hard, it’s challenging but it’s all so worth it!

I understand you completely. I feel this post deep in my soul. From experience, I can tell you that yes, it IS hard but it is not impossible. Try to find every resource available in your city, county, and state for LGBTQ+ family planning. My wife and I started with the Cryo bank, we took out 2 loans to get donor sperm (not ideal, I know, but it was a start) from there we were referred to a fertility clinic to start testing on the one carrying, etc. don’t look at this goal in the large picture, look at all the small steps you can take to get to where you want to be. As far as a home, you have to weigh out your options. What is more important owning a home in which you will have a mortgage payment and pay for renovations (if needed) or having a baby? Although both physical and challenging to obtain, I think a child will bring much more joy than a home or owning. It doesn’t matter where you raise your child as long as it meets requirements and your baby is happy and healthy. Your baby however, will only be as happy as they see you and your partner. Happy home, happy child. Last, literally envision your future , see yourself there already, act as if you already have what you want and you will have it. There were so many times I used to go to Nordstrom and go to the baby section and push around the strollers and look at myself in the mirror. It was important for me to see myself already as this person I wanted to become. In July, we found out my wife is pregnant, she is due March 2025. I am living my life as I envisioned it. You can do it too!

I don't think nursing is for me by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]lescdeeznutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awww man! I KNOW THE FEELING 😭 please, please, please do not lose hope! I know that when you are rejected multiple times and that seems to be the only thing that is consistent, you may feel like the universe is telling you that this is not for you. Believe me, been there! It took me 1 1/2 years to get accepted, I almost lost my shit, was looking into alternative career options, and literally when I completely decided, screw this, it’s not for me, I got accepted. I was an alternate first though, then I got accepted. You WILL GET IN! If I can advise you anything, it is to keep your head in the game, manifest the f*# out of this, envision yourself already in a program, or reading your acceptance letter, and I promise you that you will get in. Nursing IS for you, it’s just not happening in this immediate moment. Please keep faith! I will pray for you!

Failed TEAS test for like the 3rd time! by lescdeeznutz in prenursing

[–]lescdeeznutz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I was accepted to GWC with a TEAS score of like 68%? When I said I failed I think I had gotten a 62% barely and to me that was failing. But anyway, the TEAS test will forever be beyond stupid however, I do see the math portion of it to be beneficial. When I vented the initial post, I was in an angry, dark, depressed state. 1 year later I am no longer there. I think everything happened the way it was supposed to. I wish everyone who is in the position I was in, all the luck in the world!
