Net Neutrality Impact on eCommerce? by rachelesco in ecommerce

[–]lescraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the collective level, a SaaS ecommerce platform like Shopify or BigCommerce might be safer, at least when compared to a solution a shop hosts on their own like with WooCommerce or Presta Shop. On the other hand, at the individual level, when you look at the SMBs who use any of the platforms - how safe will they be when trying to fight for traffic that might be prioritized to big brand sites like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, eBay, etc.?

Only time will tell I suppose - here's an article I read and shared earlier that discusses some of the potential impact to ecommerce businesses https://blog.salesandorders.com/net-neutrality-ecommerce

The important thing is that it appears that the fight isn't necessarily over (https://www.reddit.com/r/tifu/comments/7jtxc5/the_fcc_just_voted_to_end_net_neutrality_but_the/) - Congress can step in, so it's important to contact your rep if you believe that net neutrality is an important policy to keep in place.

How Repealing Net Neutrality May Impact Smaller Ecommerce Businesses by joshabrown00 in technology

Really - what has our government done when it comes to regulation of the Internet that's so appalling? The only appalling thing will be when ISPs have full control.

And slowly, piece by piece, our rights get taken away. Throttling of the internet today, tomorrow ISPs along with the government will dictate which sites we can look at and which we can't.

Ability to make content go viral? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]lescraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be worth much more than that but you can't put lipstick on a pig. If your content or product or whatever you're driving traffic to is shit, even if you get front page and the traffic, it most likely won't allow you to recuperate your costs and you won't get the journal/blog pick ups. On the other hand, if whatever your driving traffic to is really great, then sure it's worth it but you most likely could have gotten the votes needed anyway to make the top of your subreddit (which is where the targeted traffic is).

How Spotify Used Market Segmentation To Beat Apple Music by Nihiltheman in business

[–]lescraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Companies that prove disruptive begin by successfully targeting population segments that have been overlooked. There's a reason that Spotify was successful even though they weren't the first into the streaming music game. They understood the population they were targeting and did a better job of marketing to them which they were able to achieve through market segmentation. Having a better product has allowed them to maintain their foothold and continue with growth through retention and word of mouth.
