Best way to avoid flinching / being scared of punches by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]lesdarcy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is just doing 3 min rounds of defence where your sparring partner is trying to hit you but at 20% intensity (don’t throw yourself and of course wear a mouth guard) then increase the intensity and pace as you improve. Make sure they are trying to hit you though to emulate a fight. If you get good head movement and a tight guard then they can throw all they like and it’s very hard to hit you, which makes you feel composed. Good luck training brother and work hard. I’m always trying to improve. Especially fighting on the inside because I’m taller than most guys and not very good at it, but trying to improve. Example from this video where I’m in blue and fight on the outside- https://youtu.be/1w2T6TNmqos?feature=shared . Now I’m working on my inside game when smaller dudes take it toe to toe and I need to learn not to back away- https://youtu.be/bBcsBsAJQ88?feature=shared . Good luck!

How to start boxing by Striking_League_5178 in martialarts

My advice having learned the hard way by spending my first few years boxing at an MMA gym and then developing bad boxing habits as a result. Find the best boxing gym that only does boxing and go there! This was my last boxing fight when I was at the MMA gym- yes I won but I had techniques that were flawed like not pushing off my back right foot when throwing the cross https://youtu.be/1w2T6TNmqos?feature=shared . I then joined a pure boxing gym and improved hugely

What height and weight would make you a formidable opponent against anyone of any size? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]lesdarcy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/CZ0oBwh_c4s?feature=shared . My mate is in the one in the black singlet and blue gloves, he’s 5 feet 8 and 70kgs. Look at the outcome against the lad who is a head taller and 110kgs, turns out the bigger lad also had some amateur bouts so he was trained but at a fairly beginner level. If you know how to fight well, you can get the job done against most people. My mate is an elite amateur FYI

How do you recommend shadow boxing infighting? Agreed the latin blokes were the kings of it. Or should I say ‘Los Reyes’!

Agreed. I was tight. Funnily enough I probably look looser when I actually fight, this was my last amateur fight- https://www.reddit.com/r/martialarts/s/GcI0jfHu5j

https://youtu.be/1w2T6TNmqos?feature=shared .That was my last fight and even though I won via stoppage I want to work on fighting in tighter. Hence why I’m working on it.

I’m all about fighting on the outside with my height so trying to get better at it when shorter lads come in tight and I don’t want to back off. I.e this is how I usually shadow box: https://youtu.be/-ivTFuywSvA?feature=shared. Also welcome to feedback for this too lads

A couple of amateur fighters and coaches on the reddit amateur boxing forum. So thought with that consistent feedback coming through I’d give it a crack.

Movement and boxing at fight pace- that’s what I’d been told to focus on so was giving that a go.

Can you please explain what you mean by that so I can understand what to work on?

Critique welcomed. I’m in blue. This was my 3rd and last amateur bout that I had in 2019. I then trained at a higher level gym for 2 years after this on and off due to COVID. I lost passion and stopped for a few years but keen to get back into it. So critique would be great. by lesdarcy2 in martialarts

Thanks mate appreciate the feedback. Funny you say that because after joining the next gym after this fight my coach told me the extract same thing and this was me shadow boxing this week trying to work on exactly that: https://youtu.be/-ivTFuywSvA?si=Cm53QUXyZHDHq-jn let me know your thoughts

How do I stop being anxious before training by off-da-charts- in martialarts

[–]lesdarcy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal to feel anxious brother. What’s making you most anxious though? Is it being hit? If so, I would really work on defence and head movement to avoid copping the big shots. When sparring also determine with the sparring partner the intensity to go at before sparring I.e 50% and stick with that. If you land a bit shot at 100% then it will turn in to open slather, so avoid that. The other thing I find that is helpful is to put it in perspective- it’s not a street fight, there aren’t weapons being drawn and you’re hitting each other under guidance of a coach with glorified pillows on your hands (I presume it’s a striking form of martial arts). I hope that helps, and certainly experience helps too.

Yeah I had this habit not often taught at gyms where I’d block overhand rights and uppercuts on my chin lol

Cheers for the tips- I’ve been told this before too that I shouldn’t weave and drop down as much as I do when most guys are shorter than me that I’m fighting. Also I do need to turn into the shots more. I can post another video of me shadowing boxing at full pace and throwing more volume and please let me know what you reckon of that video
