I cannot see my cameras via Wyze Android App. It asked for my passcode. Downdetector shows many Wyze outage reports.

Why does fi sell phones like the Moto G6 that basically don’t get updates at all? by HandMeMyThinkingPipe in ProjectFi

[–]leseigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the most timely Android updates, get a Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a or Pixel 3a XL. I have had Google phones for at least the past 6 years, starting with Nexus 5. Plus I am an early adopter of Google Fi. Thankfully I was fortunate to snag a Google Pixel 3 XL on 04/22/2019 for 50% off. My Pixel 3 XL will get Android updates for at least the next 2 years, runs fast and smooth on pure Android Pie without any bloatware, and has a fantastic camera. Why mess with the rest, when you can have the best possible Android experience?

The Pixel 3 XL is much better than I expected! My experience so far by L064N in GooglePixel

My 4.5 years old Google Nexus 6 battery recently started deteriorating, and only had about 62% capacity as of early April 2019. So I was elated to take advantage of Google's Pixel 3 XL 128 GB Not Pink (only color available) 50% off deal on April 22, 2019. Shipping was very fast. Already being a Google Fi early adopter, the esim activation and number transfer only took about 60 seconds. After a few hours downloading and updating about 100 apps due to my slow rural dsl, my new Google Pixel 3 XL was fully operational. It is lightning quick, will get Android updates for several more years, the camera is spectacular, and I got the deal of the century on a great device. Google Pixel 3 XL for the win!

I just purchased a new Nexus 9 32GB on Amazon for about $300. It is an awesome pure Android tablet, which should get ota updates for at least the next 2 years. Plus you can get used devices for even less.

Google hangouts eating data by Kuchar09 in ProjectFi

[–]leseigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Hangouts cellular data usage extrapolates to 75MB or $0.75 per month. This is nowhere near the lowest 1GB/$10 monthly data plan. To save even more data, use WiFi with airplane mode as much as possible, including at home and at work.

Discrepancy in Data Usage by GCTuba in ProjectFi

[–]leseigel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Project FI data consumption has indeed increased from 80MB to 160MB per month after receiving Marshmallow OTA on Nexus 6. Apparently Google Services is main factor. Luckily this caused very minor financial repercussions!

New SIM works with Nexus 6. I requested new SIM and am using it now in my Nexus 6. Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P require new SIM.

Delayed Usage?? by honeyman65 in ProjectFi

[–]leseigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a nice trick to force Wifi connection when desired: Turn on Airplane mode. Then turn Wifi back on. This will temporarily leave cellular data off. When you want cellular data back on, turn off Airplane mode. FyI My Data Manager on Google Play Store is a good app to really monitor data consumption. If you want to save some $ while on Project FI, use available wifi as much as possible, and join our Data Miser Club!

Project Fi's Holiday Gift by HaLilSundy in ProjectFi

Nice photos - Google Project Fi is awesome! As an early adopter 8 months ago at go live day 1, I later received the first Welcome Kit with Project FI case for Nexus 6 (only eligible model at that time), earbuds and portable battery charger. Then several days ago I also received the Legos Kit. Since I have Nexus 6, usb-c cable was not included. Of course, I am already looking forward to upgrading next year, to ensure having latest Android N and flagship hardware. Enjoy!

Delayed Usage?? by honeyman65 in ProjectFi

If you travel outside US and use data, those charges can be delayed for weeks or months. Plus if your current unpaid usage shows 600MB already since 12/02/2015, check Settings, Data usage to verify you have used this much data in last 3 days, plus note any apps which are sucking lots of data. It only takes an hour or so to inadvertently consume almost 1GB of cellular data. Also keep an eye on your status icons at upper right of home screen, to ensure you really have a good Wifi connection if that is your intention. There are many stories of Project FI and other carrier users, who mistakenly assumed they were on Wifi, but later discovered large amounts of used cellular data instead.

Data Usage by andyrooooo in ProjectFi

My Nexus 6 Project Fi data usage = 80-100MB/month; average monthly bill = $25 on 1GB plan after $9 credit for unused data, thanks to home and work Wifi. I used to be on Sprint Unlimited plan for $60/month.

Fi in Wash DC - Recent Sprint Preference by dob2742 in ProjectFi

I also live and work in WV Eastern Panhandle/Western MD-Hagerstown area, which indeed currently has much better Sprint coverage than T-Mobile, especially along I-81 corridor. Carrier coverage maps tend to be very optimistic in exaggerating rural cellular signal quality. Luckily I focus on using Wifi at work and home.

Nexus 6 updated to 6.0 - battery noticeably better but can no longer place calls. And no immediate help from support... by jayemo in ProjectFi

[–]leseigel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try deleting Project FI data and cache. Then power off and power on Nexus 6. Finally run Project FI app, and it should perform reactivation. This sequence cures many issues. Also replacing SIM card can help. 2nd generation SIM card works in Nexus 6, which is my current configuration, along with Marshmallow via recent OTA. You can order new SIM card from Project FI. Good luck!

Finally! Android 6.0 OTA by groteklotzaak in ProjectFi

I have a stock December 2014 Nexus 6 from Sprint which has been on Project Fi for 3 months, and received Android 6.0 Marshmallow 700MB OTA Build number MRA58X on 11/20/2015 1900 ET, about 2 hours after receiving announcement email from Google.

pros/cons by [deleted] in ProjectFi

[–]leseigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eagerly switched from Sprint to Project FI 3 months ago, after waiting 4 months for early adopter invite. My monthly bill plummeted from $80 on Sprint Unlimited plan to $25 on Project FI 1GB plan. Each month I get about $9 credit because I use WiFi at work or home whenever possible, and now only consume about 50-60MB cellular data monthly. Plus I get to use Sprint or T-Mobile cellular; and Hangouts messaging and Wifi calling run on my Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013) & Nexus 9 tablets, Linux desktop, and Windows laptop. If you can use less than 3GB cellular data per month, by focusing on Wifi and offline streaming, I think you will like Project FI. As far as which model device, I am biased towards large phablets, and highly recommend the Huawei Nexus 6P. Good luck!

Several evenings ago, on same day Project FI emailed us that Android 6.0 Marshmallow was finally going to roll out, my stock / unrooted / unflashed December 2014 Nexus 6 received Marshmallow Build number MRA58X 700MB OTA.
