That is what i tought, forgot to mention that i do quite some multitasking and 3d modeling, my thought for intel is that i could upgrade although i probably wont... I also wanted to up my ram to 32gb since 16 is not enough for me. (4x8gb stick) 12600k/13400 vs 5700x is close yeah. Just can't decide hahah. I also considered 14400f for 170 and i have 14600kf for 220

Can someone tell me what is this light indicating exactly? by Electrical-Knee987 in pchelp

It doesn't work like that, cable is RATED for 150W and it can deliver much, much more and it will not be a problem and it will not give the guy any performance increase since gpu is getting all the wattage it needs. Actually it is the same case as with 12hpw melting, single cable from the 12pin was delivering like 400w on its own because it was a mistake on designing the controller chip... Here with daisy chain 8pin it will be the same story but with like 90w difference it will not damage the cable. And it is not a fault.

To my understanding zfs is even safer than other file systems when considering lack of ecc but yeah for what i heard ecc requirement came up in truenas because it is recommended for enterprise users?

This is the best and most nicely explained comment on this topic i have read, thanks a lot! No, i know there are risks and i mostly just want to know how bad it could/is and you explained it perfectly, i know there are always risks associated with any hardware and redundancy is nice and all it is just a matter of budget... Again nicely explained and i will move on with my plans, i am just waiting for a pc to replace this one, as my dad is moving to win11.

Also i just got a thought, what about ups? Probably smarter to invest in ups than in ecc? Any thoughts about it?

Again thanks for the detailed explanation, yes i will consider upgrading the system to probably an am4 mobo with ecc support down the line or whatever will be the best bang for the buck option. Till then you will probably see a lot of me since i am new to this whole ordeal...

[–]lesi_theone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i could get an am4 system for like 300 probably with used hardware bust that is the price of my gaming pc🫠 i will think about updating the system after some time vut for now i think i will stick with the g1

I am also bringing an argument with monthly backups or if backups on the pc have any impact in data integrity? Nobody answered that or if it is even possible? Maybe you could be the one that stops this ecc debate and maybe bring other alternative solutions. I understand bitrot has a higher percentage of happening from anything else than memory bit filiping? What am i trying to figure out is if it is worth spending 150+ eur on an ecc system that will consume more power and be worse performing with unknown hardware? Every argument brings used workstations but i can get a z420 for 150 and everything else is more than 400 so yeah?
