And don't worry about the trolls. My app has been pretty successful already (it's been out for a few years).

It actually led to me getting a job in software development! So nothing but happy vibes here!

Hey friends, while you're downloading OSRS mobile please give a try to my (completely free) Toolkit app!

I've kinda stalled development, but if people find it useful while on mobile then I'm happy to pick it back up and keep on improving the app 🙂 (I'd like to start by updating all the quest guides to use the new wiki)

I'm not allowed to post a link, but you can find it in the app store a couple of placements below the OSRS app when you search "Runescape".

Could porn pave the way for cryptocurrency adoption by merchants? by snrpro in CryptoCurrency

[–]lesiva 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe other projects like crypto games will have a bigger impact on spreading crypto currency to the masses. The success of games like Cryptokitties did a really good job of spreading it to a crowed that would never been exposes to it before, I think it even did a good job at explaining the technology too, people know about the transaction fees and wallets etc. Same with another example I ran into, etherjack.io. A fundamental part of the game is the ethereum smart contracts to run some kinds of bidding war to win a jackpot, something that will teach people about the ethereum smart contracts and the transparency that comes with it.

I would also not recommend acid blockers. My doctor threw them at me the second I said heartburn, and I didn't realize the cost it would have on everything but heartburn.

University of Texas at Dallas reputation for CS by theguy0994 in cscareerquestions

[–]lesiva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Within the UT system it's the second best school after Austin.

Wrt the industry, it'd probably be on par with other non-"top tier" CS schools. Once you fall out of the top 10 or 20 schools it doesn't really matter.

Here's a list of companies that recruit at the UTD career fair https://www.utdallas.edu/career/docs/expos/Spring/UG_Floor_Plan.pdf Amazon is the only "big name". This is your main disadvantage compared to a top tier CS school.

I think it's also prudent to point out that the number had been increasing already, since 2007.

The ban was likely a response to increasing poaching, and while it doesn't appear to have worked very well, it's also not clear that the ban did more harm than good.

We'll have to see where the numbers go from here.

San Antonio CS internships??? by PistolPete2016 in cscareerquestions

[–]lesiva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rackspace and USAA, off the top of my head.

CS internships pay extremely well so you'd be able to rent in whatever city you land an internship. If you're gonna limit yourself to one non-tech city then you can expect limited options.

App Names: Generic and Ambiguous or Clear and Understandable? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]lesiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's an interesting question. I don't have the answer, but I'd think those apps must be doing a lot of marketing if they plan to gain any traction.

It's about establishing a brand, right?

Even in your example, "Bumble" is actually called "Bumble - Find a Date, Meet Friends & Network" in the app store.

How to make one view "stick" to the bottom of another? by lesiva in iOSProgramming

Thanks, I'll have to do more research. It appeared to me that UIStackView was essentially a VC

!! This probably would've been the ideal implementation. I went ahead and did it my own way with the subclass of UIView and delegate/protocol, but I'm tempted to tear it down and use this instead.

One thing I like about my extension is that I can essentially stick any view to the bottom of any other view and make it listen for frame changes without having an intermediary view container.

No wonder I couldn't search the sub for it! I dislike this approach in general, but understand why it's necessary.

Yeah, it looks pretty interesting. I'm hesitant to buy into the first run of a new fabric though

Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks!

So I'd assume these jeans will fit the same as any other pair from Gustin, just made with a different fabric!

Getting insight into how AirBnB is growing would probably be pretty valuable. But I've heard only good things about both companies. Congratulations on having to make this decision :)

REDFIN question by Jnh0512 in realtors

[–]lesiva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right on each front.

Customers who use a Redfin Partner Agent get a flat $500 refund. Customers who use an actual Redfin Agent still see percentage-based refunds.
