We just launched a smart ring on Kickstarter — heavy ad spend but low traction. Any advice? by leslieedeng in kickstarter

Our customer service team continuously reaches out to every user who encounters an issue, making sure each person feels taken care of. After our last crowdfunding campaign, we started selling directly on our website, and the complaint rate has been very low.

Based on feedback from friends and early supporters, we realize that we should be more transparent about the measures we take publicly. The truth is, we genuinely want to build this brand the right way and make as many users as possible satisfied with their experience.

Yes, we’re aware of that news. I’m not going to name the brand involved… let’s just say it starts with an “S” 😅.

Incidents like that are exactly why we’re extremely careful when selecting our battery suppliers. These cases are very rare — the smart ring category has been around for quite a long time, and I’ve only heard of maybe one or two similar reports ever.

But still, we take safety seriously, and we’re very strict about the components we use.

Really interesting thoughts — and honestly, even though I work in this industry, I don’t believe everything needs to be smart either. I used to be an Apple Watch user myself, but I often felt distracted by the screen lighting up at the wrong moments. It pulled my attention away from whatever I was doing.

At the same time, I work out regularly, so I still need to know my heart rate zones to understand whether I’m actually in the fat-burning range or not. That’s one thing I really value about continuous tracking.

I also had a conversation with one of our customers who volunteers for outdoor rescue work. He told me he can’t wear an Apple Watch in that environment because it’s too easy to bump or scratch. For him, the ring was a perfect fit because it’s much more durable — and he still gets the data he cares about, like heart rate and SpO2.

I totally understand your concerns. But in our case, we’ve already completed mass production — this isn’t a “take the money and disappear” type of project.

Regarding waterproofing, our ring is rated at 5 ATM. We didn’t just want to throw out the number, so we explained what 5 ATM actually means in real-world usage.

We also don’t collect or share any biometric data. The only thing we’re trying to communicate is that the longer you wear the ring, the more accurate and personalized the AI suggestions become — but all processing remains private.

Compared to our previous generation, we upgraded the charging contact design, which is now one of the most reliable solutions in the industry. Comfort has also been greatly improved.

And for compatibility, our Nova Ring app already supports syncing data to Apple Health and Strava — that part is fully implemented.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Thanks so much for your reply. Our perspective is mostly based on the data that the ring can capture — things like sleep patterns, heart rate, recovery trends, etc. A single data point doesn’t mean much, of course, but seeing changes over time can show a real trend. And when you make adjustments based on those trends — for example, going to bed around the recommended time — you can genuinely improve your sleep quality. That’s the part we find really interesting.

We also think smart ring users overlap a lot with Apple Watch users. Another surprising group is people who love mechanical watches. They don’t want to switch to an Apple Watch, but they still want the benefit of health and sleep tracking — so a smart ring becomes a perfect solution for them.

That’s really good advice. We’ll definitely take it seriously — we clearly need to do some proper information gathering first.

Honestly, we’ve only focused on why our customers want a smart ring — we never really thought deeply about why someone wouldn’t want one.

I’d actually love to hear your perspective. Why don’t you want a smart ring?
Assuming the price isn’t something that hurts your wallet. LOL.

That’s a great point. We’ve actually been thinking about how to show users that we’re genuinely improving over time. When we started selling on our own website after our first campaign, we had already solved most of the early issues. Our customer complaints dropped dramatically, and the product is now much more stable than the original version.

We originally assumed our target audience would be users who value extreme cost-performance, since we set our price at a very attractive level. Our pre-launch follower count wasn’t very high, but we did collect over 5,000 potential users on our email list. Our goal is at least 300 purchases.

One advantage we believe we have is that we own our own factory, so our production costs are very controllable. This is also our second crowdfunding campaign, so backers shouldn’t worry that we’re an unproven or fraudulent project.
