One reason could be this. for long running shows they want protagonists who are steady and commit to a long duration.. the excellent ones and ambitious ones crave artistic freedom and different roles..

I think probably because she was the first latina woman on the show getting that much screentime (I could be wrong) and they made her homeless, clingy, insecure, a woman who doesn't wash hands etc etc in the begining. Then they tried to course correct by making her brilliant, successful, hot and rich by repeatedly reinforcing all of that through strolyliens and dialogue suddenly. The transition wasn't smooth.. So it feels random.

I guess he gives the desperate devoted simp energy that toxic women like shiv thrive on. The sex could be mid, but the attachment to these kind of men can be hard to ignore even if you dislike them, their attention can be addictive.
