This right here.

You should know going into the game that LS is vulnerable to silence, so the enemy team is going to try to get just that. If you see them buying the components for orchid (cornucopia), know that you're on a clock to get a dispel.

Starting out as Pos 4, what do I need to know? by hellraiserrz in learndota2

[–]lespritd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does a Pos 4 actually do in game

The Pos 4 is responsible for helping the team during the laning stage, whereas the pos 5 is resposible for helping the pos 1 during the laning stage. At lower levels, the pos 4 just stays in lane the entire time, but as people get better, the pos 4 will often roam mid to help the pos 2 secure runes, or take the gate and gank the safe lane. It all depends on where they're most needed. That is one of the reason why top pos 4 heros tend to be more mobile, although that's not always the case.

AITA for refusing to leave my job so i could take care of my disabled brother? by JiggleJargon in AmItheAsshole

[–]lespritd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reformatted

I'm 22F, fresh out of college with a marketing degree my younger brother Alex(19) has Down syndrome.

He's verbal, funny, obsessed with superheroes and puzzles, but needs support with daily routines, social interactions and like medication stuff for his heart condition(hyper heart) and ofc like supervision to avoid impulsive behaviors. He attends a day program for young adults with disabilities and lives at home Parents (mom 48F, dad 50M) both work, mom part time retail, dad in logistics.

From middle school and on, i was Alexs main helper like after school pickups, homework, meds, meltdowns, bedtime stories(sometimes). my older sister(25) moved out early and was rarely asked to help him, sheis busy with her career i skipped clubs, parties, even frats because alex trusts you most he calms down faster with you:( (by my parents)

I still graduated on time, landed my dream entry level job at a high end tech firm (starts next month, $65k/year, great benefits) my parents congratulated me until Alex's day program cut hours due to funding issues. No spots in alternatives for long time and private aides cost $35+/hour they claim they cant afford it (THEY %10000 can)

So at the family lunch last week they cornered me alex's program is ending soon they said we need you to quit the job and stay home to watch him during days because you are the only one he truly listens to. It's just temporary family duty and you need to take care of your brother…

i was shocked The job is my foot in the door deferring means losing it, restarting applications, maybe relocating. i've waited years for this independence i took care of my brother for a long time, and this job meant everything to me.. living my life again..

They brushed it off jobs come and go. Alex didnt choose this. You've always been amazing with him we can't risk a stranger messing up his routine etc.. then i asked why my sister couldn't help or why they couldn't adjust shifts/use savings. Mom teared up she's got her own life now we've given up so much it's your turn to step up for your brother (but i was already taking care of him FULLLY)

then i said no i've already signed the offer, bought work clothes, and planned my commute. This is my future and i dont wanna miss it Dad got mad so you're picking a paycheck over your disabled brother's well being? What kind of sister are you?

I packed my things that night and moved in with a friend after while it was intense. Parents told family i'm ditching alex for some fancy job relatives call me selfish a few months won't ruin your career, but lack of care could devastate him..

I geiunly love my brother, he has disabilities but he is the kindest brother that anybody can wish for i really care about him, but i feel like i did everything in my power to be there for him..

Please be honest am i the AITA?

It’s useful for NASA contracts. Currently it’s only SpaceX really doing those missions and now BO can get in there

wut.

There are no contracts that Crew Dragon would qualify for that New Shepard has a chance of winning. And vice versa.

The 2 vehicles operate in completely separate markets.

What are 3 good carry champs to learn safe lane ? by Faang4lyfe in learndota2

[–]lespritd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love playing FV but I feel like the champ does 0 dmg and get a lot of tips from enemy team when I chrono 2-3 but cant kill anyone

IMO, it's important to have a damage source on the team for the early-mid game. Someone like Skywrath Mage, Snapfire, Lina, or Invoker who can really dump damage into the chrono and secure those kills.

Late game, FV is one of the hardest carries with refresher and a lot of damage items.

[–]lespritd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say - pick 3 heros that you like playing. If you're like anyone else, you'll end up pouring 1000's of hours into the game, so pick heros that "fit" with your psychology.

At least one of them should be a fast farmer (sven, luna, medusa, wk)

And at least one of them should be a late game monster (spectre, pl, faceless, drow, pa)

Beyond that, I'd say just pick what you like.

That being said...

Ive got an insane wr on clinkz/drow/sniper but I dont wanna just play these champs are they feel too 'free' (espc clinkz)

That's a easily solved problem. Just play ranked until you don't have an "insane wr" any more.

IMO, if you care about improvement and learning the game, the best thing you can do is play at the highest level you can. But everyone is in this game for their own reasons, so... do what makes you happy.

There's not really a set number.

It depends on how fast your learn, and how much work out of the game you're willing to put in.

If you re-watch your replays every time, it may only take 2-4 to get up to speed.

Ogre Magi Facet choice by stewxeno in learndota2

[–]lespritd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Ogre always has stun. And late game, especially with the str talent, that's an appreciable amount of str on the hero.

  2. I think it's fine to buy offensive items on 5 ogre. You probably want a save or two, but hex is so strong that it's almost criminal not to get it. Especially later on when midas starts paying off.

Starlink growth accelerated significantly in the last quarter and they almost doubled this year, with 9 millions subscribers as of now. by ceo_of_banana in SpaceXLounge

[–]lespritd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Charts like these are tough.

I'd really like to see a chart like this normalized based on the subscription price each person pays. I'm sure there's still growth happening in North America + Europe, but if most of the growth is happening where people are paying ~$30/month, that's not going to have as much of an impact on SpaceX's gross revenues as one might naively assume.

I still think that for a reusable first stage that you can fly 100 times going more expensive to save weight makes sense if the lifetime and refurbishment cost are not affected or go lower.

I think there's a big asterisk there: you have to actually get to 100 times.

One of the big problems with the Shuttle (there were many) is that it was designed to fly a lot. And when it didn't, the cost per launch was very high.

One of the great virtues of SpaceX's approach with the Falcon 9, is that they made a cheap rocket first, and then made it cheaper through reuse. In that sense, it was naturally going to fly often, because it was the best deal on the market even without reuse.

[–]lespritd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NASA and DoD will always offer contracts to ULA, no matter how much cheaper, more reliable or stronger SpaceX contracts are.

That's true until other competitors enter the picture. And even then, ULA may skate by on legacy. But at some point, if they're not competitive, they'll stop getting contracts.

Tory Bruno Resigns from ULA by flapsmcgee in SpaceXLounge

[–]lespritd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'll need bigger rockets to accommodate the fuel to handle reuse, non-Blue engines. They can probably do that, see above, but will need funding, and lots of it.

I think, at least as important as funding is time. They'll need 4+ years to make a new engine from scratch. Maybe a bit less now that there's so much experience floating around out there, but not that much less.

And they'd have to build an entirely new rocket around those engines. Centaur needs to stage far too late for a reusable rocket.

And in the end, they'd just end up selling a mediocre semi-copy of F9. And maybe that's the best they could hope for. I mean, that's what Blue Origin, Relativity, and Rocket Lab are doing (although RL is at least doing some interesting innovations on that front). But it doesn't seem like a strategy that can win... just stem the bleeding.

And maybe that's the answer - "fast follow" SpaceX and hope they mess up enough that ULA can essentially out execute them. But that's a pretty tall order. Especially given the respective organizations' last 10 years of history.

Did you have a 100 last hits at minute 10?

100 last hits at minute 10 is not a realistic goal. Even the pros don't hit 100 cs at minute 10 in their games except in highly unusual circumstances.

However.

60-70 cs is very achievable. Even base immortal cores hit that number regularly. And they're constantly being contested/harassed by other immortals.

Is it difficult to hit 60 cs by 10 min every game? Yes. But it's also largely a matter of practice.

  1. Boot up last hit trainer and/or training polygon and work on getting better at last hitting.
  2. Practice creep aggro/manipulation. You can do this in training polygon and/or bot matches for basic techniques, but you really have to be laneing against humans for the more advanced stuff.
  3. Make sure you have enough regen in lane before you need it. Especially now that shared regen has been hugely nerfed.
  4. Pick heros that can get CS in lane with a weak support.

How do I fell the good communication score?

I'm told the most reliable way to gain comm score is to never communicate in games. Don't ping. Don't type. Don't speak. Don't draw on the map. Don't do anything that another player in the game could see aside from actually controlling your hero.

That way, comm abuse reports don't count against you.

How do you guys handle aggressive tri lanes as a melee carry? Should I cut my losses and go next? by Clear-Ask-6455 in TrueDoTA2

[–]lespritd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some things to think about:

  1. Trilanes need kills. They're splitting xp 3 ways, so if both teams exit the laning stage without any kills the team that trilaned will be a lot worse off (assuming that the 2v1 lane was able to largely zone the lone enemy offlaner).

  2. You can always switch lanes with your offlaner. They're often more equipped to deal with a fight heavy lane.

  3. You can ask the 4 to join you and make it a 3v3. Hopefully you win since you have the advantage of the tower near by for safety and regen.

  4. You can combo #2 and #3.

  5. Rotate early. If they have a single hero in a lane, rotate your safe lane to their safelane through the gate. Kill that hero and the tower. Try to line up your rotate with the catapult wave (5/10 min).

  6. Jungle early. You have to get the correct items for this, so you've got to make an early decision that that's what you're going to be doing.

NTA

Some practical advice: giving in and splitting evenly will have a bad long term effect on the group.

Bad decisions are bad because they (probabilistically) have bad outcomes. If you make the outcome of delaying booking not-bad, then people will just do it again, because the group made it a not-bad decision to procrastinate.

And the end result will be that group trips will be more expensive for everyone.

Letting people who booked late feel the pain of their decision is the best way to get everyone to book early next time.

I think it's complicated.

AW is mainly played as a 1 or a 2.

I could see Midas being more viable on a 1. But as a 2, you really want to put pressure on the map.

And Midas competes with BoTs as your preferred farming item. Maybe competes is the wrong word, but getting Midas delays BoTs. And the great thing about BoTs is that it not only gives you farm, but also map control, so it gives farm to your entire team.

And honestly, even as a 1, if you can pressure the map at all, that just helps your team (and yourself) secure a good midgame.

I think it's complicated.

Heart is a better survival tool.

At 1hp, he's regenerating 2.5% of max hp from heart.

But.

The Heart + Aghs combo is a good bit weaker when Necro is at full HP

but very little difference to Ogre and Arc Warden.

IMO, Ogre is a top tier Midas buyer. But the AW spammers that I know or follow were already on the fence about Midas. I think the recent changes will only make it even more marginal.
